looking at booking my mod 2, but just wondering what sort of things you need to do during the test ( I have read of NSL roads on the routes) and also overtaking safely (what if your 125 bike doesnt have the 'mmmff' to overtake safely and quickly? thanks

As long as your seen to be making progress and riding safely you should be fine.

If your stuck in a NSL doing 20 mph behind Doris and Ethel on an OAP day out then you wont be seen as making progress. Stuck behind a Whacking great big lorry on a NSL road doing 50 then stick behind him as on a 125 it would take far too long to over take safely unless its dual carriage way.

Look on youtube for motorcycle module 2 test and theres a whole set of videos about it. Thumbs Up

As Pinkfloyd says.

You must be progressing- however things like wind and obviously traffic will be taken into consideration by the examiner. I did my MOD2 today, and for me- a fair bit was on the dual carriageway!

Going up the hill I could only do 45 in a 50, but coming back down I was good at 50.

To be fair- it wasn't a bad test, just a couple of stops every now and then (I had an angled start rather than a hill start which wasn't bad at all. Safe and controlled is the key!

Ask this guy:

Edit: He beat me to it Wink

Also, google is your friend Smile

Basically you'll be expected to be able to handle varying road conditions in different areas.

NSL, town riding, fast and slow moving traffic, and you'll be assessed on every aspect of your riding.

Phone up your local training school and see if they'll do an assessment ride with you. Sort of a dry run if you will, and they should be able to tell you how much training you need to successfully pass your test.
Most test centres I believe will do it for you no obligation. I had one, and the training school I actually did training with (Shire Oak Motorcycle Training in Brownhills) I believe would do it as well.

But there's no harm in phoning up and asking, teh worst they can say is no, or charge you 20 or 30 quid for it.

Take your time and don't do any hasty manouvres, as Pinky said overtake Driving Miss Daisy but make sure you check it's safe and have plenty of room before doing so, your bike can do it, especially down hill Wink

On mine I went on a busy dual carriage way and was behind a lorry so I didn't bother as it was really busy in both lanes.

They do expect you to give it some on your 125. Just get plenty of rides in up to your test date and good luck.

There are many things they do like... like getting up to speed rather sharpish. Don't wait around at traffic lights or they'll get bored Thumbs Up

the best advice i was given is to think of the examiner as a glorified sat nav, just follow his directions, it is your ride. if he gets stuck at lights or a junction ah well, bully for him. he will just ask you to pull over when it is convenient, make sure you find somewhere safe even if it means going for a mile, pulling up across a junction, drive way or on double or single out of time yellows will be frowned upon. relax (i know its hard) and enjoy it.
