Which OS?

Just waiting for my new lappy hard drive to arrive and wondering which OS to format it with - Vista or W7.

What's the general consensus?

My mate reckons Vista Corp but I have access to an original W7 disc so it might be a bit easier.

I personally run Windows 7 Professional 64, and it's great.
The only problems I've had are getting 64bit drivers for some of my weird and wonderful stuff, but it does come with "XP Mode" where you can run a (legal) version of XP within the desktop.

I doubt that any drivers that don't exist for W7 would exist for Vista either.

I also have Ubuntu as a dual boot option for developing, but always revert back to the familiarity of Windows when I can.

Just install windows 7 skipping the bit where it asks you to activate.
Once its finished installing run the loader and you'll be activated.
Just make sure you set windows to not automatically update as they sometimes release updates that will remove the loader. All you need to do if that happens is run the loader again so no biggie.

Windows 7 64-bit is the business. Vista is an utter disgrace and anyone who bought it should have been given either a refund upon demand or a 'free' copy of W7.

Windows 7 totally pwns Vista.

I ran Vista Ultimate on my laptop for a couple of years and it was a ball ache.
As soon as i plonked Win7 Ultimate on the laptop performance actually increased.

Windows Me to XP is what Vista is to Windows 7
And we all know how much fun Windows Me was Shocked

Win7 all the way mate, you wont regret it.

Vista was what Microsoft thought would be the next best OS

They realised it sucked soon after release and brought out W7 as soon as they could. Vista had such a short shelf life its an open admit from Microsoft it failed.

Windows 7 all the way.. You get your Windows haters but its not so bad

Have used both and now run 7 and for all intents and purposes there isn't a great deal of difference between the two.

People hate Vista because it was and still seems to be fashionable to hate it.

But obviously get 7 because it is the newest.
