Random jerkiness

Hi folks,

Anyone got time for a quick question - this morning on the way into work, the bike was really jerky in 3rd gear - it was doing this. where '-' is smooth and normal:

--------jerk-------jerk--------jerk------jerk

It was the same kind of jerkiness you get when you mess about with the clutch.

I made sure I was changing gear properly, and this only happened in third - have I broken something?

The bike has done just over 400 miles now, worth taking it for it's first service early?

As above, if it is that new then it's the dealer's problem. I reckon it is a fuelling issue but regardless, it's too new to be getting your spanners on it just yet.

I *am*a spanner so no worries there - will keep an eye on it.

When you say fuelling issue, what kind of things are you thinking?

Fuel issue +1

If it is FI then air leak possible or something major with injectors.
Carb then it could be blocked jet, blocked fuel pipe/filter somewhere.

It is new, even if you are a spanner then take it to a dealer. Saves you breaking it more and invalidating warranty.

Will do, was referring to myself as a spanner in the derogatory sense rather than the mechanical, so I'm not going near it :0)

Would a fuel issue only affect one gear though?

No. It it only jerks in one gear then I am guessing a tooth or two has snapped off the gear that you are using at the time.
