I had been with AOL for donkeys, just recentley the service went a bit hit and miss.

I was at the end of my contract so phoned up for my MAC code but I went and signed up with them again because it was cheap and was getting a new router and the service was runing OK. Then this week it's been fucking diabolical. I had my MAC code so I've gone over to a BT deal which is £5 a month for broadband and weekend calls and used the cooling of period to get out of AOL... this bit concerns me because I took AOL on the 12th of Jan and notified them tonight 19th... 7 days, should be alright?

Surely you must be able to get out of a contract if the service is falling well short anyway?

Well according to the dates you have given you should be fine.??

Contact them and TELL THEM that they have 7 working days to provide the contractually agreed service you signed for. If They Do not........you will then seek Legal assistance with a proposal to issue a writ against them for breach of the said contract.

Just read on a forum that people are suggesting they have in the past adopted dirty tactics in regards ot this so stand your ground.

We had the same problem with Talk Talk, they claim to own bandwidth.
Every winter these subcontractors of bandwidth like AOL & Talk Talk get bottle necked as a result of over subscribing people, break downs occur all over the country.
We were offline for over a month last Christmas so did the same as you and switched to BT, never looked back.

Before deciding which ISP always go to there home page and look for speed test.
Perform speed test on your post code.
Of course this will be to do with where you are located in relation to your local junction box and alocated badwith to the ISP in relation to subscribers and population/uders.

Then look at cost of course!

I used to work for talk talk years and years ago.
The shit hit the fan when TT decided to get into bed with AOL and share out their LLU. Which was pointless considering TT didnt have the capacity for their own customers in the 1st place.

Get rid of your current ISP and see if you can get Cable inets from VirginMedia.
Out of all the ISPs i have worked for i will say that VM Cable are the most reliable, stable, and overall consistently able supplier of inets.
Overall they provide the constant fastest speed.

Hell, they are in bed with Cable and Wireless who own the UK communications backbone, every other ISP uses it including BT lol.

All done with no fuss. Move over to BT on the 26th. I can't believe that price of £5 a month, it's not just an introductory for a few months but for the full 18 month contract, it's called 'package 5' but it's invitation only to customers who have moved their calls supplier.

I did look into virgin because people on here rated them, but they can go and whistle, they want £35 for the privellage of signing up for them. You also HAVE to have your phone line through them.
