Extreme Noob, Advice Please?!

Hey, i'm Nick and new to the forum

I'm 22 and have been 'into' bikes for a while but only now do i feel ready to actually go get my licence.

I'm looking at doing the Direct Access as i'm over the age of 21.
I'd just like to ask if its necessary to have my own bike and gear (helmet, clothing etc) to do the test?

Are these provided?

Also would it be a good idea to start off on a 125 bike for 6 months/a year before riding a bigger bike?

Hello and welcome.

If you are serious about biking, you might aswell go and get bike gear.
Most riding schools will provide helmet and gloves (hi zviz) but not all have boots.

Since you are over 21 just do the DAS, you can do either a 3 or 5 day course.

The first day you spend doing the CBT.

If you do go down the DAS route you will need to do your theory before you are able to book your practical parts of the test.

I will start looking into buying gear, are there any good websites for these types of things?

As Paxo man said. Most places supply gloves and lids but the best thing would be buy your own gear. At least then you know where they've been.

If your wanting to do your DAS Then get your theory booked asap and get that passed before you start the course. You'll find plenty of theory test revision info online including test papers.

No need to buy a 125 bike if your doing DAS. The school supplies the bigger bike and when you pass you can ride what ever size you want.

To do your das you will have to be on a 500cc bike , so id go for the same sort of bike once you past your test, as you will hate riding a 125 after taking your test on a 500.
Usual newbie 500's that sell well are :
Kawasaki ER5
Suzuki GS500
Honda CB500
Kawasaki GPZ500

For insurance, pick a couple of the bikes you're thinking of and try the comparison websites, only takes a few minutes, less if you're just changing the bike from a previous quote

I suggest you go and find yourself a Hein Gericke shop, explain that you are new to biking and looking for some standard kit. They will be able to explain the ins and outs of each item. And why you need them etc.

If you want further help from this forum, at the top there is a button called search, if you post your topic LOADS of stuff will come up, you might get overloaded with information, hence me suggesting you walk into a shop and ask for help direct and in person.

my advice get a 125 i did and am now ready to do my direct access in march
the road time has help loads with getting used to other drivers handling a bike safely ect

also i wouldnt touch an er 5 for the money you can get a far better bike my mats one is nippy and everything but the build quality leave a lot to be desired im not saying its mechanically bad just lacks the finnish of the gpz 500 or the reliability of the honda cb 500
