Bought a v nice new shoei helmet from Superbikes receiver auction. Which, as luck would have it, uses the same visors as my old multitec helmet. However I am having real problems with the visor misting up - clear one more than the dark tint one, I mostly use for sunny days. I have tried:

- an antifog cleaner (no difference whatsoever)
- spit (slightly better but still bad)
- opening all vents on helmet (no difference but cold head)
- not breathing (better, but got dizzy and had to start again)
- baby wipes (still no better)
- pinlock insert (no fogging where the insert is, however my eye line is through the top part of the insert so a bit off putting)
- opening visor "one click" (can see but my face freezes and my eyes water from the draught)

Anyone on here have any ideas to stop the fogging on the inside of the visor? It wasn't this bad when the visors were on my old multitec.

Which Shoei have you bought?

No misting problems with my XR-1100 even with all vents closed, even my specs stay clear above 20 mph.

If you have pinlock, makes sure you adjust the eccentric adjusters at either end so that the bead seals effectively.

I much prefer using fog city to pinlock, however the newer helmets which have enhanced peripheral vision such as my Shoei XR1100 and Arai RX-GP/Corsair V, the pinlock has been designed to not hinder your peripheral vision.

I've been riding non-stop through winter and could NOT fault pinlock whatsoever.

In my other arai, I'm running fog city inserts and they do the job equally as good. I used to have a respro foggy mask too, but in the end it made putting on my helmet a tad more difficult, so I just went with the pinlock.

All these methods are fit and forget. Washing up liquid works to an extent but if you're not meticulous in applying it, it often lends to distorted vision. I used to do it in my 6th form years until this one time where I had my visor open in the rain. The washing up liquid on the inside lathered up after I tried wiping the rain beads away... so there goes that theory!

Pinlock and Fog city work by the principle of absorbing moisture into the membrane. The water molecules interact with the membrane, in a similar manner to osmosis. This subsequently leaves your visor fog free.

Have a look at that, it says washing up liquid is useless and after trying it on my old glasses I have to agree, does get them clean though Laughing

It's a Shoei XR1000 Rogue.

Thanks for the replies, I shall try the washing up liquid thing (but not promising any buttsex whatsoever if successful).

The pin lock thingy is fitted correctly and does work, however the top edge of the insert runs right across my field of vision. I know the XR1100 addresses this by having a different visor opening mechanism (visor goes slightly out, then up), allowing the pin lock to be higher up the visor, but on the XR1000 its lower to avoid it fouling the helmet / visor seal when the visor is opened, but hey the helmet was a good price (£136 new).

Brand-New visor; Brand-New Fog-City shield.

If the visor's not new, then often the fog-city doesn't stick well, and any pre-existing scratches on the inside cause glare.

I got given one for product evaluation back in 1993..... I was still using it in 2001!

Visor was donald-ducked, but the fog-city shild still worked!

But ultimately, it is often a 'fit' thing, and where one person will swear a lid's brillaint for not fogging, and another horendous, on another persons head, depending on the size of thier nose, the flare of thier nostrils etc, they'll completely dissagree....

Used to know a racer that had terrible trouble finding lids that didn't mist up... used to have to stick his cheeks to the inside of his hat with duck-tape at wet-races! He did have rather 'equine' nostrils though, poor chap!

I'd advise against washing up liquid as it can be slightly abrasive against the visor and leave small scratches etc.. the other option would be to get a 'high vision' pinlock. Exactly the same price as an ordinary pinlock but it gives you that little bit more vision at the top. The only thing you might need to do is adjust your side baseplates so you can open/close the visor. Any shoei assured dealer will be able to do this for you in store. Hope that helps

Another vote for Fog City from me too.
I've used the auto tint version in my clear visor, and the standard one in my dark visor... daily commuting, weekend blasts, all weather conditions without a hitch Thumbs Up

have to agree washing up liquid works for me most the time, and I also ride all year so clean my visor almost every night to get the muck off,
I have however just bought a new V-can v170 helmet and was wondering if pinlock is available for this model??

when you tried the anti fog spray did you heat it up with a hair dryer for a bit then buff it off or did you just spray it on and wipe it off?

I know you probably don't want to hear this but if your Pinlock line is in your line of sight are you sure you have the right sized helmet?

Shoei arn't stupid and don't put the pinlocks low like Arai do (Arai do it because of the brow vents)

Unless your riding 125gp stylee with your chin on the tank I would dare say something ain't right.

Really? Shocked I've got an XR-1100 and just switched to contact lenses cos I was sick of my specs fogging up...

The pinlock insert works a treat though Very Happy

Do you people never clean your visor?

When I ride in the winter my visor is cleaned pretty much every time I go out because it has road shit on it.

So why clean your visor with washing up liquid knowing full weel it will stop the misting, then pay x amount for some silly invention?

Outside gets cleaned when its dirty, yes it maybe every day at time's. But the inside get left alone as it does not get dirty.

Bob Heath spray worked well for me. Found that if you breathed on it to make it mist up once, it was a lot better afterwards.
Even better was to buy a new visor. Then cut the old one down and using some double side tape stuck it over the new visor.
Result a double skined visor that steams up far less, if at all.

New Nolan has a pinlock and I don't have issues of steaming up, if it does. Just crack it open a tad and it clears off.

Get a breath deflector, they are awesome. respro foggy mask £13 and they fit perfectly.

It takes a TINY bit of extra care putting helmet on for it to be comfortable but still way nicer than anything else, and you can see perfectly.

The *only* thing I dont like about it, it leaves your eyes really the only visible part of your face, so its even worse for talking to people.

Yes if you use way way too much then leave it coating the visor so you can't see out just like RIDE did it's pretty much useless but if you use a couple of drops and then wipe it down with a clean tissue it's fine.
