is a PI 600 to slow to run in the middle of a pack? I know im not going to be in the top 5 but will i still be able to be competitive in bemsee rookie 600 on a 10 year old r6?

I thiking i was doing 54's which would place me 12th out of 32.
Should be ok to enter it then
From what I've seen they all race 08 + bikes. Why dont they race cheaper bikes if a 10 year old one can keep up? Or am i wrong in thinking they all have nice bikes?

Like marjay said riding skill will improve your lap-times far better than a quicker bike.

However it stands to reason that if your doing well, you could all do a bit better with extra HP better suspension etc.

Its a similar situation with tyers, you can use the same tyer for 8 races, but you'll do slightly better getting new rubber more often, its a balance between competitiveness and cost. Which you choose depends on the size of your wallet i guess.

54s is twelve position in rookie 600s at Brands indy?
Was that at the start or end of the season.
Expect by the end it'd be a fair bit lower - ie with a best lap of 53.8 on an SV650 I was running in eighth in clubman minitwins and overall rookie 600s tended to have greater skill at the front.

I wouldn't worry about where you come, but if there'll be a decent number of people to 'play' with.

Rookie 600s is one of the most competitive ways to start racing.

Personally, I suspect you may find it a little frustrating, but I also find those are often the times I improve the most - when I've got to put it all in just to keep up wit someone that has a faster bike.
(One of my favourite races is still coming 11th in that same weekend at Brands on an SV that had 35hp! I still feel bad about mentioning this to the person who only just beat me and ironically was the one I bought the bike from as he'd bought a new 'better' one .)

If the R6 is tuned to the nuts (120bhp at rear) and is fully 'sorted' it will be capable of turning in low 49s at Brands Indy.

A more modern bike will be able to turn what high 47s low 48s?

Mid pack Rookies will not be seeing those times, so it doesn't really matter like it does at the sharp end, but you have to accept that you WILL be penalising/handicapping yourself on an older bike. But that is obvious right?

However, if you are only good enough to be mid-pack, then coming 15th instead of 17th - does it really make a newer bike justifiable? (assuming older bike is due to budget not desire).

You can certainly 'make' more time with an older bike on fresh tyres than a new bike on tired tyres as you have blown all your budget on the bike!!
