Lo all,

For those that dont know, picked up an 03 B1H ZX6R the other week and so far really enjoying it!

Went for a quick ride last night for about 20-40mins and while I'm starting to get used to the bike I'm starting to notice more noises etc. Now I know the Kwaks are notorious for noises that are just normal but one thing that I couldn't help but hear was a weird buzzing/whirring noise coming from what I thought was the engine from about 5-6K revs and up and the pitch got higher as the revs rose. The bike rides fine bar some notchy gears which I think could be solved by some new oil but I wondered if this was a common noise or something I should be worried about. It was loud enough to hear alongside the engine and if I really listened closely I thought I could make it out to be an almost fast scraping noise so I immediatly started thinking valve clearances?

Bike has 11,005 miles so only a thousand to go until the valves need to be checked at the next service anyway. If it is valves do you think I'm entitled to go get them done with the 3 month warrenty the bike shop gave me or will they tell me that its just a service thing?

Any ideas guys/girls?

Cam chain tensioner most likely.

Really easy to get to, RHS, top back of the engine by the frame.

They seem to need the occasional bit of a clean on that bike.

My thought would be cam chain tensioner as Donny said. Are you sure its not there below 5k?

See if you can hear anything by putting a screwdriver over where the cam chains sit and listen that way. And/Or whilst revving.

Cheers guys, I will have another check tonight and let you know.

EDIT: Also I just remembered that I'm pretty sure it was only doing it in 3rd/4th gear and not 1st or 2nd but again will reconfirm tonight.

Sure it isn't your key vibrating on the yoke?

Normally buzzing noises for me are caused by worn front pads skimming the disc, or by a front wheel bearing starting to go. Ride it for a while and see if it goes away first though.

Its possible its the cam chain.

Is the noise louder on the over run?

Hi all,

Just a quick update. On a local bikers forum another member with a b2h posted the below:
i have a 2004 zx6r lovely bikes, valves shoudlnt need doing untill 16,000 (i was told by mechanics at johns of romford)... the gears are a little notchy on all these, i give mine regular oil changes and spray wd40 on the gear rod n lever area to loosen it up.. usually makes it less notchy (in my eyes lol)... as for the wirring noise sounds i have a similar noise... but im pretty sure mines the noise the injectors make... its similar to the noise when you turn the inginition on and the display does that up n down thing?? lol it was first thing i noticed when i bought mine... only thing i can compare it to is it sounds like its got a super charger.... also kawasaki's are notorious for engine noises im constantly listening to mine cos i think its abnormal but its just got a loud intake n cam chain noise pretty sure its nothing serious... although i recently put a race fit growler on it... and i cant hear a thing anymore... mainly cos the thing is defening!!!!!
I think ninja pretty much nailed it on the head for me! I couldn't place where I'd heard the sound before but now that I think about it it is very very similar to the ignition on noise and how he describes the supercharger so likely just the injectors and I'm not used to the noise but it put my mind at rest knowing it sounds like others Smile

Everyone thanks as well, will check the chain and sprockets(which others had said) and also the cam chain tensioner anyways and get some grease for the gear lever (which seem to be notoriously ungreased overtime) Smile

Yeah it could defiantly be the injectors.

Also sometimes on the over run, the gearbox's whine like a supercharger, which is perfectly normal too.

Sounds like its normal!

Sometimes I hear tinny tick noises on my tank, but I think it's normal.
