Got fed up of paying silly amounts for what is quite a simple process to do ( if your not using pre preg carbon anyway ) so i decided to make my own, i started off with something simple, the small exhaust heat shield on my 848 and this is the result, just need to drill the holes and put in some padding, what do you guys think?

the finish isn't perfect but it's made in my shed at home and it's only me fitting it so i'm happy

cost: £0 ( i work in the fiberglass / carbon industry )

Nice. What did you make the mould out of and how did you make it?

Know any cheap places to buy the weave?

For the mould i used the original metal exhaust heat shield, polished it and waxed it several times with mould release wax.

next i'm going to attempt a sprocket cover and chain guard, easyish shapes to do Smile

salty, i've tried heelplates there bloody tricky but if you have a easy shape i can do, bring it to me one day and i'll have a go Very Happy

they have a few kinks in so probably not gonna be that easy then.

However i would love some trim panels to replace the black plastic ones under the riders seat, but they have little pegs on the back that push into rubber gromits so they could be tricky aswell.

then this happened later.

https://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f155/ben125uk/c2.jpg

used abit of twil weave carbon on some aswell, looks abit nicer imo but i've not seen it around on bikes so much but that weave of carbon is more expensive

Am I the only one who hates carbon? Sick

I have carbon lower fairings on the r1 and within an hour of fitting I had sprayed them black to hide the monstrosity underneath. Very Happy

Yeah i may have gone abit nuts there but each one is different i was basically just pissing around with the amount of layers in them, some have fiberglass in the middle, some have carbon kevlar and some a different resin + it's the only part i have at the moment thats a decent mould but by the weekend im hoping to have the sprocket cover and chain guard sorted.

How tiny are they? i'll give it a go anyway, sometimes i have to do really fiddly bits at work but it's easier there with all the proper tools unlike my shed where i'm armed with the basics Surprised
i wouldn't want money for it, the materials don't cost me anything anyway.
