Powered up my Steam account so I could buy Football Manager 2011 and realised I still had CS: Source on there, so I downloaded it to see how it compared to the might of COD.

Its quite alright, still lots of people playing this online shooter.

For anyone that never played shooters on a PC this thread will die on its arse!

Think I even added a few 'friends' from on here that still show on my account!

Probably best known for being the most hacked and cheat-infested PoS known to PC gaming.

CS:S is in a different league to CoD in my opinion. CoD is far too luck/connection based to be taken seriously. CS:S is a lot simpler so to kill someone it relies heavily on your aim and reflexes rather than you having slight of hand or stopping power on Rolling Eyes

I used to play mainly on glass/break floor servers, most fun I've ever had. Constantly got banned though which was incredibly frustrating. The admins were dicks and always said I had wallhacks but in actual fact I had 7.1 speakers and could hear before I saw them. Ended up making my own server but then I switched to PS3 and stopped playing.

Last time I played it VAC worked pretty damn well, can't speak for now though. People don't want to risk getting their account banned.

There was still plenty of hacking/cheating.

This. It's why i stopped playing it, it just became very tedious having to trawl around looking for a server that wasn't infested with cheaters.

I've never understood the point of hacks etc, i don't see what people get from using them. Sure, they end up top of the leaderboard, but it isn't down to them, it's down to the hack.

Maybe it's down to the way i've been brought up, i've always been taught (and teach the same to my kids) that if you have to cheat to win, you shouldn't be playing the game.

Thumbs Up

Hi

Tended to find that CS:S relied on having a half decent connection, but did a reasonable job of trying to disguise it.

Playing once I remember hiding round a corner waiting for someone who I knew was coming along. Got shot by them and was dead on the floor before they came into view to me. Also know that the opposite happened on at least one occasion with me (I shot someone before they came into view of me).

All the best

Keith

Never remember having any problems with cheating on it, always seemed to have decent games.

Someone on here did set up a BCF server for a while which work a treat.

Spent most of my early teenage years on counter strike condition zero... Then I got the health a fitness bug and passed the password on to my younger brother... Haven't played it since and he's changed the password...

Loads of us in the early days, I think about 2004/2005? used to play on CS:S and have our own server, was great fun. But like what has been said way too full of hacks and cheats.

There's hackers and then there's the incredible number of people that have insane skills from playing it an ungodly length of time.

Another good point, you can just get sick aim.
I have been banned from servers for aimbotting and wallhacking when I did no such thing (its a good feeling to be banned for aimbotting)..wallhacking is just tracking their speed along a wall. (This was a long time ago...when I played too much).
Have been frustrated that theres people who use the deagle solely because so frustrating to be killed by a pistol every time that person looks at you...

Which cod are you talking about though?

First COD was the best, then cod2 introduced red crosshairs when pointed at an enemy in single player (WTF), cod4 integrated a system where you had to have usernames over players and not allowed to colour them (WTF), I didn't bother playing any after that. Except, I did buy the aussie version of cod5 so it was about 10 quid cheaper.

Long live COD (and I mean COD, not cod 2,3,4,5,6,7 but COD!)

I meant from CoD 4 afterwards since I've never played the early ones Thumbs Up Can't really play old cods on the PS3 anymore since 90% of the matches are glitched.

Whoever said COD was down to luck doesn't know what they are talking about.

CS:S just seemd to clique when i started playing, and people were insanely good, i dindt get it though, id crouch and shoot and nothing, they'd crouch and shoot and get a headshot, imo vaguly aiming at the head with a loose crosshair is more luck than actually aiming with a point in COD.

The hitboxes are poor in CS:S they were definatly laggy, hence why twitch shots with sniper rifels were common place, you'd watch then and the crosshair would be nowhere near.

I played CS at about the same time COD (COD1 the original was released) and it pissed all over it.

Remember it? I still play it!

CS 1.6 is still a good laugh!

And what.. remembered as most hacked? BS.

Yes its been hacked alot but most servers have decent communities / admins to keep the place sorted.. atleast thats how ive seen it for a verrry long time.

May it live forever as one of the staples of FPS gaming. Other new, big games come and go but CS has stayed pretty damn strong for more than a decade

I have to say after playing quite a bit of CS 1.6 and CS:S they have no more hackers than any other games. Not ones that I've noticed anyway.

Yeah, I had my CODUO dedi server box running in the attic all day and night, played havock with my bandwidth, But it was damn amazing fun changing gravity half way into the game and then re-instating gravity so everyone would fall to their death. haha!

Hi

Was crap at it (not surprising, I only bought it to play those online games and had never played it before), but far from always first killed. There were definite issues with the connection though (as mentioned earlier, being shot by people a couple of seconds before they can into view, and vice versa).

All the best

Keith
