My 2nd GPZ 750

Well i had one of these a few years ago and it got a lot of interest etc..

I recently got another one i have done a couple of stages of work so far... heres the 1st

Well heres the pics in a 1986 GPZ750A3 thats a bit rough around the edges, plans are to go with a ZZR rear rim, complete ZZR front end, then a few tweaks on the body work here and there...

Please excuse poor pics as i took them in the dark and had kinda blocked the bike into a corner so couldnt drag it out to take pics.

Well, after getting a light days work through i was home by 11:30 today so thought hmmmmm that K6 shock wont take long to mount up on the GPZ so...... Ripped bike apart... Got my pregnant Mrs to push Axle stands under the frame on the ladder thingy i found in the greenhouse so the swing arm and shock linkage will drop freely allowing me to get the new shock in place... anyway pics

This is the shock i want to put in GSXR K6 shock far more adjustable than standard.

Alongside the standard GPZ750 shock, the top mount is a little too wide so that is easily remided, the bottom mount just needed the holes enlarged a touch to accomodate the GPZ bolt

Bit of grease on the bolts and bish bash bosh one GSXR shock in place.

Next issue is to relocate the battery as the reservoir on the gixxer shock fouls the battery tray. So a phone call to my local bike shop a 40 minute chat while Julie from the shop went through all the catalogs for gel batteries trying to match to the GPZ's 14AH output as close as we could... and we found a 12AH which will do the trick and fit in the space under the rear seat where the mudguard and toolkit used to go.... Yet again the Mrs does me proud and makes a cardboard mockup of the battery i have found (the 18AH one wont go no matter what i do)

So next thing is to get the new gel battery and fab a battery tray to hold it in place, a chunk of wire to relocate the live feed as the earth can be relocated direct to the frame.

ZZR arse end and yokes have just gone away today to be modified to fit the GPZ swinger/stem.


Have to hide the receipts from the mrs so she doesnt know how much this "cheap run about" is going to cost

Not that its got any interest but posting anyway


NExt Update, the ZZR rim came back all machined with spacers to suit including caliper carrier and the top and bottom yoke are back too.... So one afternoon and

NEw HEadset bearings and cups fitted then front end put in yokes, forks etc and calipers mounted.. Lights remounted and ZZR clipons fitted for now until i can get a top yoke conversion for some renthals,

Rear wheel fitted and caliper/torque arm etc.....

Started bolting bits and bobs back on need a few minor wiring jobs, Brakes Bled, Fluid and service on the motor charge the battery and take it for a test run (o and fit the custom front sprocket and chain of course 530 conversion )

Once its all together and running properly going to rip it to bits and save up get myself a 810 kit, stage 3 dynojet, clean up some brackets and bits on the frame then get that powdercoated and then a paint job possibly a new exhaust system or adapt the existing one for a stubby end can or similar.. And top yoke kit and renthal bars..

Don't really like the bar end mirrors though and it needs a shorter speedo cable

i could do with getting a ZZR speedo cable as that should be the correct length. As for the bodging everything is temporary until funds lift up a bit so i can get a proper rear light surround made, powdercoating and paint done etc... all the spacers for the rear wheel were machined by a precision engineer aswell as the stem etc....


Thanks for the feedback its not as good as my other GPZ was but i had a lot more spare cash then and no mrs and kid too lol
