Right well I passed my test on the 19th, I have been wondering if it is alright to still be riding on with provisional insurance details... It is more expensive to update the quote with admin charge etc then what it is worth. But I am asking is this alright?

My logic comes from the fact that if you pass your test- you gotta get home right?

I've only been out once since before phoning the insurance company, as this has been bothering me..

I am with Swinton BTW, and I pay annually

Call them. They might refund your insurance a little for going from Provisional to Full.

I was lucky. I passed my test 2 weeks before my insurance was due and just picked up the 750 and insured it as the start of a new year.

i would advise updating your info with them about having past your test. your insurance will probably go down Thumbs Up and it also then gives them no reason to not pay out if you should have a crash, cus if they can get out of paying then they will

Using comparative websites and other information I recon the insurance would be about £100 cheaper if I updated- However, with something like a £50 admin fee I was put off

Money aside, is it legal?

Looking at things though, whether it is worth it or not, it is something I have to get on the phone to.

£100 cheaper....£50 admin fee...=£50 saving

and as i said, if there system says your a learner driver and your not if you haev a crash they may not pay out due to your information being wrong. they do try and get out of paying however they can.

for 5 minutes on the phone and a £50 saving you might aswell do it Thumbs Up

Counter-point: you've reduced their risk. How could they refuse to pay out?

I certainly wouldn't pay them anything for the privilege of updating your details. Only do that if you're increasing their risk, i.e. your license is endorsed, or you suffer a theft or loss.

If you are an insurance company and someone doesn't tell you they pass their test and they have an accident. You are not going to say you insured them. You insured someone on a provisional license who didn't update their details.

The only logic behind this is the insurance companies want to payout less money.

If you have a minor or no blame bump, you may be OK, yo keep you on as a customer. If it is your fault and the bills are going to be big, they may dump you to avoid having to pay out.

I just called up some time ago..

This is the situation:

1) The amount I would save, wouldn't be taken into effect until the next renewal of insurance (June);
2) Updating records for the motorcycle is voluntary.

Thus- I would be spending money rather than saving it Laughing
