i have a honda cbr125r , its a nice , lovely looking bike, easy to use , comfortable as its small and light, and im short aswell.

but my problem is the bike struggles to get past or up to 60mph, and i only way around 8stone and im 5ft6 .

i bought my bike from a motorcycle shop, do you think they have added restrictors ? its only 2 years old 2008, everything is standard , would a performance exhaust make it any different , even an extra 5mph or quicker acceleration ? and sound better , i know many of you will say get a bigger bike , but i love this bike but would like it a bit faster. thankyou

Dan

Instant cure is to pass your full test and buy a CBR600

You'll pass 60 in first gear Thumbs Up

Sounds right for a 125, my YBR would sit at 60 generally, 65 on a calm day and 70 with the wind behind me.

It's what 4 stroke 125's do

it should get to 75,probs need a service Thumbs Up

75?! On the clock maybe!
Its got 11bhp, its actually LESS powerful than the 'old' 12.5bhp learner bikes before they lifted it to 14!
Book speed for them I think is 71!
But yeah, would probably benefit from a service.
CBR's aren't restricted, to 11bhp, that's all they are designed to make.
Making one quicker, really means engine mods, and its really not worth the effort most of the time, just get a bigger or more powerful bike.

You could change the sprocket size to gain a slightly higher top speed, and loose some acceleration or vice versa.

When you say 'struggles'; I doubt it's going to be amazingly fast, but it should go faster than that, so depends on your definition.

For a test, try and find a long pretty straight rode and hold the throttle fully open in top gear from 60mph or whatever, duck down a bit and see what speed you are at after a mile or two.

Not in all cases. You can only get more speed if the engine has enough power and is revving to the redline generally. Which it sounds like it isn't.
In some cases downgearing can give you more acceleration AND topspeed - because the lower gearing can mean the bike can rev-out.

Can only speak on behalf of my current workhorse CBR125.
Its got 5000 miles on it, the valves are adjusted to spec, oil is new and chain is tensioned Thumbs Up Every single day my clock indicates 85, without fail.

Very very slow to start off with, takes a while to get going above 55mph.
After a solid run down the dual carriageway at about 75/80 indicated, it then becomes more alive (i say alive, you see another few mph Laughing )

But I have absolutely no trouble exceeding 70 every day, in the wind and rain. Maybe its time to service it properly.

Oh and in relation to what G said, my bike has no usable 6th gear... it is a straight flat cruising gear.. but you still drop speed like a stone. I rarely use it, 5th gear doesnt seem to hit the red line anyway.. ive got it nearly touching 10,500rpm, but again.. you should be getting faster Confused

Ah, ok I was presuming it'd hit red line in fifth.
On some smaller bikes if you change up too early you will find the bike doesn't have enough power to accelerate to the point you have enough power.
Always change up just before the redline - at least if you're trying to 'make progress'.

Lol!
Been trying to get Snowie used to that, but the red-line on the Super-Dream is 12,000... and it actually needs to be buried in the red, to make it shift!

Browsing the other day, had to chuckle when I found a webby by some-one that actually used to drag race one!
They reckoned that the launch technique was to rev it to somewhere well past the red line, and the tacho-needle was tapping the inside of the clock-case..... then try and keep it there feeding in the clutch..... Sounded about right!!

You know, little bikes aren't REALLY A great way to teach newbies to ride responsibly, are they? More how to thrash the knackers off something to get anywhere!

I'm 6ft and average build, and 60mph on the CBR should be no problem. I can get 70 indicated on mine on the M60 (GPS reads it as 63mph) and have had 77 going downhill on the M67. Going uphill is another matter, 70 drops to 60 fairly rapidly then falls to 50.

The bike isn't restricted as it's only a 4 stroke.

If mine's any gauge it should be getting past 60mph with little real effort, it's only above 70 that mine starts to struggle, though I've had an indicated 80 a couple of times.

Something doesnt sound right. Ive ridden at least 8 CBR125s and all have hit 70 no problem. Your not putting it into 6th at 60 are you? 6th is useless, keep it in fifth at all times unless cruising or going downhill.
