sounds like a load of shit to be honest. he said hes gonna use his "free ninja" as a track bike....which means using a 125 as his everyday bike still. im not being funny, but if i was on a 125 and got a free 600 id be on it all the time. the only reason i could see why he wouldnt be is because its nicked and he doesnt want to ride it on the road for fear of being caught

No, I don't think so.

My current bike was got by the previous owner in a similar way.

The previous owner was emptying out a council flat and garage as the owner had emmigrated. Found a bike in there. Happy days.

To be fair if he was moving away he should have arranged proper storage off the road. It's only a bike, so it's easy to stash in a mate's garage or whatever.

I think he's a thieving little chav, there's all sorts of reasons a bike could have been laid up that long but it doesn't give you the right to steal it. However the owner really should have found a better storage arrangement. Why did he not ask the guys mates for his phone number and contact him if he was so keen to give it back

Just because he's applied for the V5 doesn't give him the right to take the vehicle. As said the V5 shows who is responsible for taxing the vehicle etc and not the owner.

If I was the owner I'd get it back and drive through as many speed cameras as possible

I can understand finding a bike rotting in a ditch or where you know a person has cleared off permanently i.e. the guy who emigrated, but a year or two of being parked up is no indication of abandonment.

Not sure how it works if you're doing time, but otherwise I believe the owner of a vehicle does have a legal duty to have the correct address listed, to cover just this sort of eventuality.

Not saying it isn't stealing, of course.

TBH, I'm not sure the story is actualy true. Theres a few things dont add up and where's the pics of is new bike Seems strange there was no cover or chains on the bike, not sure I would leave my "pride and joy" like that.

I spent a long hot summer one year raising pleasure boats that had sunk and thus classified as "abandoned" and/or causing an obstruction because of a similar bylaw that the Anglian Water Authority had at the time. Most of then ended up as firewood but a couple of them ended up being recyled by friends.
