Easiest way would be to buy a pair of brackets that slide onto the forks between the yokes. M&P should do them.
Some other Yamahas that don't have fairings use brackets to attatch the headlight and clocks onto. These can sometimes be fitted to faired bikes with a bit of persuasion and look nicer than the cheapo fork brackets. I've taken the fairing off my RD350 and used a headlight and bracket off an XJR1300, (I wouldn't suggest using the 1300 one as the headlights are very difficult to find and expensive when you do), but plenty of bikes, (not just Yamahas), use a bracket. Most of these brackets are bolted onto one yoke and have two prongs on the top that slide into holes on the other yoke. As you're yoke won't have any holes, you have to fix it in some other way. On mine I fitted two small brackets that bolt onto the top yoke and have two holes for the bracket but sometimes you can get away with drilling two holes for it. Have a look on eBay for "headlight bracket". If any use, I have a bracket from a Honda CB-1 and one from a Yamaha R1-Z that you might be able to get to fit.
Alternatively you might be able to get a new twin headlight set-up with the bracket included. I can't stand the look of them myself but the "Street Fighters", (people who fight streets), like them.
As for the over-heating, could be one of a few different things, the thermostat might be kaput, the actual cooling system might be clogged up, the head gasket might have blown, water pump gear worn............... |
