Hey BCF,
I have to find out some information about Knight Riding metals, but Google is not helping, no matter what I type in to it I get 1 of 2 results, either; World of Warcraft crap about being a knight or w/e or the obvious, David Hasselhoff.

So I was hoping some of you guys here might be able to refer me to a site which gives a little information about knight riding, or even give me some interesting facts about it on here.

I kind of understand how it's done with the metal absorbing nitrogen and whatnot but I'd like to read into it a bit more.

This is either a) a terrible attempt at humour, or b) a display of incredible retardedness.

I'm not sure which, so i'm going to take the bait and suggest you look up 'nitriding'.

Thank you for the answer, although I could have done without the sarcy comment.

I'm writing an assignment on surface finishing, which includes shot peening conrods and ceramic coating for pistons etc and it's the first time I'd came across nitriding. I didn't bother stopping my lecturer during his lecture and asking how to spell it because he pronounced it knight riding. I'm only 16 and have never had to study/research surface finishing before.

Titanium Nitride coating. It's the gold coloured stuff you see on the fork stanchions of fancy sports bikes.

For extra credit:
Titanium Nitride is old hat now. Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coatings are where the big boys are spending their money these days.

Top one is Nitride coated. Bottom one is DLC coated. It is now possible to have an entirely black motorcycle Cool

Yeah as above Nitriding, but you do say it like knightriding Very Happy its a way of hardening metals, probably from something like ammonia (NH3) and the N gets diffused into the metal structure Shocked Laughing

another product of the modern education system seems to be full man facial hair growth at 15. Im sure it wasnt like that when i was at school, nobody had a man beard as far as i can remember and now there like yeti's. Im now 27 and still cant grow a proper beard Laughing

Bovine growth hormone is a likely contaminant of the milk supply nowadays, but that's OK since the water supply is highly contaminated with Oestrogens, so they'll be big for their age but more infertile, so less likely to breed.

Bullshit.

The use of hormone growth promoters in cattle in the UK (and anywhere in the EU) was banned more than 20 years ago.

Added to which, they were only used in beef cattle prior to that. Why the hell would you want a dairy cow to put on loads of beef?

Hormone growth promoter implants used to be put under the skin on the ears of fattening cattle on the basis that the head is discarded from the carcasse. They were banned when it turned out that the Italians had been skinning the heads of the cattle and mincing them up for baby food leading to babies growing breasts and pubic hair.

Aren't dairy cows dosed up on hormones to trick the body into thinking it's constantly pregnant to produce more milk? Always thought that was the reason for high hormone levels in milk.

On the original post, when I read it I though he was asking about the metals used to make the Knight Rider car, hoping to make himself a bulletproof Saxo Wink

The contents of a saxo are usually more dangerous than whats outside it.

On the subject of milk production, i believe it gets made as long as it's being used. That's how wet nursing works i think.

No tricks or artificial hormones involved.

Dairy cows have a calf every 12 months. They have a calf, milk for 9 months and have 3 months off. Any hormones that appear in the milk are entirely natural in origin.

I sometimes use doses of short acting hormones in a cow which is having difficulty getting in calf but these do not pass into the milk.

If you're concerned about drug residues in your food, have a look at how strictly they are monitored on https://www.vmd.gov.uk/vet/mavis.aspx . It's very dry reading. Scroll to the end of any of the reports to see what is tested for, hoiw many samples are tested and how many tested positive. They also show what enforcement action was taken.

It's a bugbear of mine that people think their food is packed full or drugs and hormones. It's not. We produce some of the best quality food in the world in the UK and monitor that quality very strictly.

You are probably also aware, that a lot of the meat eaten in this country comes from places with less strict rules. Chicken from thailand.

We have quite a bit of factory farming here too. I guess they dont require the services of a vet, so you may not know what drugs or hormones the animals are on.
