A mate passed me an external JetDirect 175x Eth0>USB network print server.

Clicky

https://h10003.www1.hp.com/digmedialib/prodimg/lowres/c00688575.jpg

It has its own ip addy and has a web gui.
Anyone know of a way i can use/mod this into a file server to be used with a USB drive?

Cheers

I'd be very surprised if you can do it.

The gui is in the firmware so you'd have to re-write that and reflash it (if possible).

I'll pass thanks but I've got a box full of JetDirect 170's if you want to try and make parallel print servers talk to a hard drive Smile

I suppose you could connect it up to something like an Epson R300 that can handle USB storage but it would be a waste of time and space.

Don't think the JetDirect would see the ports on the Epson. They're very singlemindedly print servers.

Of course it can, it has an RJ45 in one end and a USB port in the other. It just needs a different pixie inside the box.

Shaggy, I officially love you. Not necessarily in a platonic and manly way.

Well, I did notice the sexual tension at Molly's BBQ, and I applaud your restraint.

Thanks

Yes it can be done in theory but it would seem it is overly complex. Various HP printers now have internal USB points and using JetAdmin 10.2 you can read and write to them, can't find out if you can use this Jetdirct to do so but in theory it is possible.
Utterley pointless of course considering you have to get a suitable printer which takes up more space and consumes more power than a NAS box.
