^^ I keep getting these little boxes show up in text, to me it looks like a square with FO 4R written in it. Presumably it's some kind of font that I do not have but I cannot figure it out with google. Presumably someone can see it as what it is supposed to be and tell me?

It's f04a, which is a hexidecimal number, which means a "" in the "wingding" character set.

Something somewhere isn't converting it properly.

Generally it's an invalid character, potentially due to a missing font or data corruption.

It's due to the character encoding being used. It just can't render the correct symbol, usuall happens with chinese characters and so on

Aha, thank you all, it was on a message that I think was sent from a Blackberry so that could explain it and the smiley makes sense. I also see it a lot on facebook so again some kind of phone thing may cause that, I thought it was facebook just being screwy until it appeared elsewhere.
