Hi, my son is going to view this bike as he is thinking of buying it as his first machine, if all is as it says in advert and condition is really good what do you think it is actually worth?

Looks overpriced at first glance. Its a Suzuki cruiser, and it hasn't met reserve. The reserve will be too much... Anything over a grand for a bike like that is too much IMO. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

3 year old Maraunder?
And a single. Wasn't that superceded by a twin?
anyway, limited performance, and ungainly dynamics, I dont 'rate' cruisers as newbie bikes, they don't offer the 'control' for doing the cones and stuff a regular street-bike would.
Its also expensive.
£999 starting bid, I guess he's hoping for around £1500-£2K for it at EoA, which isn't unreasonable, given the show-room prices but, its a heck of a lot of money, for not a lot of bike.
With that kind of dosh to spend.... you could get a good YBR125, or similar, and a full training course of CBT to test, and the tests.. flog the YBR on for near what was paid for it, and get something like a 250 Marauder or eliminator, if cruisers are what floats his boat, when he hasn't got to weave them through cones or do e-stops and U-Turns on them, and have a full licence, with the two year restriction period falling away, rather than CBT validity expiring, can do a genuine 70mph in far more relaxed comfort, .
250 would be faster, more comfortable, more reliable, probably cheaper to insure, and just as good on fuel...
WHY bugger about with 125's?
AND why spend that sort of money on a bike that ISN'T great for training and testing on, as well as all the other 'pha' factors of a tiddler, for the sake of laughable 'style'?!
Personally I wouldn't pay even the asking price for it.... I'd point him at a YBR, a training course, and some 250 cruisers...
But, that's me.
It would have to be significantly cheaper for me to look at it differently, and put a higher value on the fact its reletively new, and hopefully pretty reliable, as compensation for the fact its not a brilliant bike for the job intended, ie commuting or learning.
If you have to go for it, then the Marauder isn't THE most sought after cruiser-tiddler, doesn't have the full effect of a V-Twin engine, and will always be a 'not-quite' one, and against others, I'd say its probably not worth much more than the starting bid, £1200 tops, though bling-factor could push it over the £1500 mark.
But, IF I was looking seriousely at the genre, I's stick a £1200 top book on it. At that money. any more, and you could go for a similar age, and more desirable Honda Shaddow.
If any of that helps in any way. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Up until April last year, I owned a 2001 Suzuki VL125 Intruder, basically the Mauraders slightly older brother. For the price of the eBay one, I'd recommend the VL, because it's a more substantial bike i.e it's bigger and more torquier (being a V-Twin) Also it looks much better.
My Intruder in it's prime

Here you are:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2010-YAMAHA-YBR-125-RED-Learner-Legal-MINT-/300521670702?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item45f87cc82e#ht_500wt_949
1 year old YBR, going for £1500 'ask', so probably the same money as that cruiser thing. Far better for the job on hand. Newer. Tidier. Easier to sell, for far more of what you paid for it.
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-YBR-125cc-Learner-Legal-/200571194551?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eb2f98cb7#ht_814wt_932
4 year old, YBR, £1000 ask price. Probably get it for £800ish. That would save £400 over what I reckon the marauders's worth, let alone what it may actually go for in a bid-frenzy, and enough to fund CBT, road training to test, Theory, Mod1 and Mod 2, and change! For the sake of a bike that's one year older.
And STILL more readily saleable, and for more of what you paid for it.
Couldn't find a 250 Eliminator, but 400?
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kawasaki-Eliminator-400-Low-Rider-Cruiser-/200571933086?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eb304d19e#ht_12951wt_1058
£995 asking price.
Struggled to find many 250's to be honest, wrong time of year, but....
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1991-YAMAHA-XV535-VIRAGO-/270699882038?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3f06f86636#ht_500wt_949
535 Virago.... the defacto newbie cruiser. Not 33bhp complient out the crate, ut plenty restricted examples about, and or easily restricted. Not the most wonderful machine in the world, but shaft drive, they are easy to live with, cheap, ecconomical, and well supported. Possibly a tad more to insure than a 250, but still shouldn't be unreasonable compared to a 125, and for the small sacrifice on that one, you get a much more popular and better supported bike.
This one, nine years old, but low mileage, £1,099 asking price, which is possibly a tad on the high side, but an AWFUL lot more bike for your money than that little one-lung 125 Suzuki!
And actually, thinking about it.... probably a much safer bet, should your lad decide that cruisers aren't for him after all, and he wants to chop it in for something different early on.
Would actually say that the Virago could be a VERY good choice for a teenage newbie if they like the cruiser style... shaft drive, easy maintenence, good mpg, well supported for spares and accessories, a known quantity in the dealers and insureres databases, a popular bike thats readily saleable, meanwhile cheap to buy, reliable, ecconomical, comfortable, and a lot more stable and generally 'useful' than the 125...
Its win allways round as far as I can see....
Getting an £800 YBR or similar, using budget to get training and test, three months tops, you could be punting the YBR back out, for as much as it cost, and looking for a Virago, or similar, for whats left in the pot.
Lads on teh road, on a 'propper' big bike, rather than a pretend one.
Properly trained and tested, so as qualified as a 'safe' rider as he can be at his age.
Full licence secure in his pocket, safe from beurocrat buggerations with the new stepped licencing system thats on the way, the two year restricion ebbing away.
And the bike,s no street scorcher he'll be tear-arsing about on, its a 'useful' little cruiser with enough 'grunt' to have SOME kind of go to it, and keep him up with the flow of traffic, without encouraging lunacy.
Less likely to be thrashed to get anywhere, therfore more likely to be ridden more sensibly, and less stressed, prove more reliable....
If he has to have a cruiser, REALLY think its the way to go... all ways round, safety, ecconomically, beurocracy, performance, style, and just well... everything really! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I agree with Mike.
It'll be slow and relatively difficult to handle compare to a commuter-styled 125. Might have problems passing a Mod1 test on it.
Sure, they look nice, but a 125 cruiser or sports is always going to be a "just passing through" machine until you get the Big Boy version, so why spend money on it up front?
Get a cheaper bike and spend the money on a test, or skip the 125 purchase, pay for training and test, and get access to many more bikes.
Having an "A" license is going to be worth a lot more to a young chap than having a 125 once the 3rd Directive changes hit. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
