I use an old Windows Mobile phone with TomTom on. It has a cradle like: [] which grabs the device firmly when it's in. I used sparky tape and taped it to the crossbar on my handlebars. It works perfect.
Obviously it's not waterproof so if I'm expecting rain, it gets wrapped in cling film and it remains waterproof. I get about 1-2 hours from it so when I know where I'm going, I pull over and turn it off. To get around this I'm putting a USB lead through the frame from the under-seat battery to power it.
It's a patch-job but it works well. ____________________ Jonny (Riding his Kawasaki ZX6R J1)

Or you can go for a RAM mount system
https://www.buybits.com/search/ram+mount+tomtom.aspx
I'm using the RAM stem mount with my Iphone4. The beauty of it is that you can manipulate the angle of the screen and its distance very easily with the stem mount. It does the job very well on the fireblade. You can get adaptable cradles for it too.
If you want the stem mount ball + arm + diamond mount for any cradle, the Keyword is RAM B-176.
There are other mounting options such as fork leg, handle bar, mirror.
I'd recommend it because it's so versatile. I've also got a tripod mount on the thing so that I can fit a camera to it.
Only downside is that you'd need to get a waterproof cover for it. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Snowie Navigates by Bus-Route...
Last month, I was getting a bit perturbed because she had been out rather longer than anticipated, the bike wasn't running the best, and fouling plugs, and the weather was rather icy, and I was beginning to fear the worst when she bimbled back onto the drive.....
Turned out she'd got a bit confused going round Nuneatons ring-road, spotted a Number 48 bus... though Ah, that goes into town... so followed it.... half way to Coventry! lol!
We bought her a £90 Garmin Nuvi, I think, Car Sat-Nav last Christmas.
No where to plug in an external head-phone, so you can pretty much forget the voice instructions...
When she first got it, she stuck it in the map-pocket of her tank bag.
Little widget, big pocket, it shifted about and when upside down, unable to hear the woman telling her to turn left, followed teh arrow, pointing the opposite direction to where she wanted to go!
I cut a square out of a bit fo cardboard to hold it in place in the map-pocket, which was better, but you have to take your eyes a long way from the road to look at it, and its only a diddy screen.
I tried it, and it was err.... hopeless!
She got a bar-mount for it off e-bay for £2 or somethuing daft, clamps to the bars, and clips on with the ball that goes on the sucker for a car windscreen.
We've stuck it on there, and with the lid open and the engine ticking over, you can just about hear voice commands, and its a lot easier to see, but, I've not been that happy about the security of the thing shaking loose, so not tried it on the road yet.
Been looking at spiral key-chains and how to make a lanyard of some-sort for it.
Water-proofness.... well, its sold with the directions its water resistant and you can use it as a pedestrian... so I'd bot be so bothered about that as long as its not in driving rain, like it would be on Snowies bike, on the handl-bar clip!
I stuck it in a Freezer bag.... this looked promicing, but suggests a small case with a hole in the back, so it can be still slipped on, the strap anchored to the handl-bar may be the way to go.
BUT, still a small screen, still 'distracting' to look at it. Still hard to hear, and ultimately?!?!?
Well, why do you want to know where you are anyway?
And why would you want some synthesised bludy woman telling where to go!
Bikes are about 'Freedom'.... who CARES if you don't know where you are..... your not 'lost'..... your 'exploring'!
And you can always follow a bus! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
