Something strange is happening, normally I have lightening fast internet but recently sometimes web pages with take ages to load up or not load up altogether. The strange thing is my downloads are un affected, they are still lightening fast and when it throws a wobbly and will not load pages I can still ping the big name web sites.

Any ideas?

Not using an AV the browser is chrome,

For all those people who will comment about not using AV, I haven't used one for well over 2 years, in that time I have had one virus and that was because my sister using my PC. I believe being savy about what you look at and click online is better than any Anti Virus.

Are you on 50mb Virgin cable? We used to get shite speeds which fluctuated a lot with them last year. The 10mb we've got now is much more stable but slows down a bit at peak times.

Try running a trace-route and seeing where the 'slowness' is occurring?

Cache full.... Tme for a defrag and clean out of old files, maybe.

Could also be that you are maxing out your bandwidth with the download. Which will cause surfing to slow.

The other thing is randomly it will not load a page, 9 times out of 10 a refresh will bring the page up instantly.

Maybe try running Pingtest.net? Also I'd recommend the official virgin media forums Thumbs Up

Sounds like a DNS issue. Try openDNS. It gives you an annoying custom 404 page but works well otherwise.

My Internet is not behaving as it should either lately. Downloads using my newsgroup client vary between 40-500kbs, whereas normally it would be 1500-2000, web pages were also noticebly slow, but I ran a speediest and it came back as 10mb (I'm on virgin 20mb) so it should still be running at least 1000. I thought it might be to do with my wireless router as it us seriously anal about it's position in relation to the speeds I get, but then if that was the case the speediest would have been affected as well. My router and modem are reset daily, I've cleared the cache and now am out of ideas. It's annoying.
