Don't think this has been posted here, (sorry if it's a repeat).

A biker has been deliberately knocked of his bike, the police are questioning suspects on attempted murder charges.
The rider has serious head injuries and is critically ill, not sure about the pillion.

https://www.bromsgroveadvertiser.co.uk/news/worcestershirenews/8824499.Three_quizzed_on__attempted_murder__bike_smash/

Apparently one of the suspect is appearing in court today!

https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/8825437.Man_charged_over_motorcycle_smash/

Hope the guy pulls through!

Not enough information to make any judgement IMO, all we know is the biker came off worse.

Yup, that. There's a scale from Innocent Victim -> Didn't Deserve It But Should Have Expected It -> Deserved It.

You can never deserve it? How many chaps here have said or thought "If I saw some thieving pikey ride past on my stolen bike, I'd..." Confused

Read for comprehension: I'm not accusing the biker of anything, but let's hang fire until we hear the whys.

They wouldn't do him for attempted murder unless they had some proof it was deliberate and not an accident.

Obviously we don't know all the facts but from what we know it sounds more like a normal dangerous driving/manslaughter

The charge is "grievous bodily harm with intent", i.e. the police believe that it was deliberate.

The tariff will be anywhere from 3-10 years, depending on the severity of the injury and the degree of premeditation - I'm assuming that the car wasn't deliberately fetched to be used as a weapon, which would potentially raise the tariff to 16 years.

This is a horrible thing to have happened, and it was only a couple minutes from my house, and 50 yards from a workmate's house who was on the scene before the emergency services arrived.

Not official information, but the lad who was injured was apparently a known thief, the bike was said to be stolen from the bloke driving the car. Obviously a tragic result of ill-thought out rage. The lad driving the car left the scene very quickly, but fortunately left behind his bumper with the number plate attached.

Until it's officially stated, however, it's just hearsay of course.

As Rogerborg said, I imagine many of us have thought what we'd do if we saw our stolen bike being driven past us, but the thinking and the reality is a massive gulf and really brings home the consequences of a moment's poor decisionmaking. Everyone involved will have to live with this for the rest of their lives, not an easy thing, even if the rider HAD actually stolen it.

I'd always thought bike thieves, and any thieves for that matter, deserve bad stuff to happen to them, but the reality of it is not so black and white.

It didn't change my mind, as I refused to post until I know all the facts.

At the moment it is all hearsay.

Nope, that doesn't change my mind one whit about what bike thieves deserve. Anyone who runs one down will get a thank you and if possible a donation to their legal fund from me.

Note carefully: I'm still not making any calls about what actually happened here.

This is the important bit to remember Mr. Green

A point I forgot to mention was that the injuries to the lad's head were so severe because he was riding with no helmet.

A nasty thread to debut on here, but it did spur me to stop lurking and register finally, so two bits of bad news for you all Razz

Last year a bike thief got killed when he rode a bike (stolen) into the side of a van.

He didn't wear a lid because he knew by doing so the police would not chase him. (not saying this is the case). Just thought I would mention it.

The reason why I posted the link, this morning, was that I thought it was very unusual to see an "attempted murder" charge being reported.

There was no mention in the articles about the bike being stolen.

However, they are "Local" papers, so you can take it all with a pinch of salt. Rolling Eyes

I was involved in an bike accident a few years ago which resulted in me being stretchered into the back of an ambulance and whisked of for surgery.
It was reported in the local rag, I read the through that particular edition twice before I found it.
Apart from the fact that they reported on a bike accident, they managed to get every other detail wrong, name, location, time, vehicles involved and injuries were all wrong.
According to the paper I broke my back, the surgeon seemed to think I'd snapped off the joint at the top of my left humerus and dislocated the shoulder, but what would he know? Rolling Eyes

What's better than a bike thief riding head first into a van?

If he's got a journalist as a pillion.

I'm riding a grey XJ6 diversion. Probably not seen me recently, go to work in the dark, come home in the dark Sad Although that's slowly changing, still a bit light at 4.30 these days!

I'd put it in my sig during my last post but it didn't show for some reason, perhaps it will this time
