Anyone have any simple hacks for using hotel wifi so I don't have to pay the extortionate amount of £14 per 24 hours while I'm away next week?

I've found a couple but they're mind-bogglingly complex.

You need to clone your MAC address to spoof someone that has already logged in. You'll need to do this in linux with the correct tools.

This is almost certainly the 'mind-bogglingly complex' method you've found!

If it's just a case of needing to get the key you can do it with linux & aircrack.

Assuming it encrypted with key WEP then yeah, crack it in 2mins.

WPA/WPA2 will take a while as it will require brute force.

Usually in hotels the wifi net is unencrypted, you connect, yo goto the wifi net pay website where it will issue you a login upon payment, enabling you to access the outside world.

bit sucky Sad

Got a contract phone? give your network a call and ask them from unlimited inet access to be added. shouldnt be more than a £5 a month.

That might be the way round it. I have unlimited internet on my phone already. I'll dig out the cable and tether it then...

EDIT. I had two USB to phone cables in my hand before I went to Birmingham on Wednesday, now I can't find either. What the hell have I done with them? Where was I when I had them?

Must be my age... Crying or Very sad

for what it is worth..

trying to hack and doing it and getting a bit of free net is much more fun then paying for it.... There is a version of aircrack works with windows as well.. I have not got it to work but I didn't try to hard..

I used my phone in Thailand and it was slow.. I don't know what speeds you can get here..

Sounds like an expense hotel to me..

Sounds like a Marriott or a Hilton at that price for WiFi.

If you travel a lot by work, join up to the Loyalty Schemes. I get free wifi these days by simply asking when I check in. But that being said, when I've booked a long enough stay at a hotel where my invoice is going to be over £1k, you're damn right I'm not going to pay for Wifi. Laughing My hotel bills for the next 2 months will be in the region of 5k, I'm squeezing them for everything they've got.

AFAIK, it isn't a case of cracking the code. Normally you connect and then have to log in to an account.

Backtrack Live CD
Stick your wifi card into monitor mode
Look for MAC of any device currently sending/receiving data from said access point
clone MAC address

And surf Smile

I don't know the details but have a look at ICMP tunnelling.

I think you need to set your PC up at home to tunnel through before you leave for the hotel but it should work.

It makes me laff to see more posts that are providing inaccurate info.

Before you guys start giving me shit remember i didnt pay for inet access for near-on 8yrs, yet i was always online. Wifi security is easy to crack if you know how to do it properly and you understand networks and wifi networks.
During that time i have, moved 3 or 4 times.

@ TQ

Not gonna work unless there is access to the inet in the 1st place.
And once he hasinet access, then whats the point in tunnelling?
Tunnelling is useful to bypass a proxy web filter.

@ Wabby and Carvel and bootsbiker

Cloning the MAC addy isnt going to help for one main reason.
If its a payable wifi hotspot then you will need the username and password to login to the paysite which will drop a cookie on your laptop. This cookie gets refreshed every few minutes with the new cypher.
Backtrack is good, i have a laptop that is used solely for Backtrack and network testing. But it isnt really gonna help the OP in this situ.

You really like your own voice...

When did I say clone Mac address.. With BT you can change your MAC address so you don't get court hacking...... more to the point they don't know it was the machine/pc etc.. trust me I done it

edit:: you r right it all depends on what the system is...
watch this

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CB4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DkDD9PjiQ2_U&ei=JlpNTZnRNYOzhAfW8o3_Dg&usg=AFQjCNHthLYy0ZY87fYaf17kIsMJw_IPcw&sig2=dK17QEEoSCEdCinRWCCENw

it is a good start.. do it on your home system 1st then look at the next step

That I am mate,

I specialize in network security.
and Backtrack has been around for years, only over the past couple of years has SpoonWEP been available for people who need "spoonfeeding" hence where the name is derived from.

bootsbiker, dude, seriously, you are way out of your depth. (Pun fully intended)
do us all a favour and take your crappy and potentially damaging advice and gtfo.

It really pisses me off when people know a tiny bit about something, then start to give out bad info that they actually havent got a clue about.

Here is little bit of advice for you.
Knowing how to use google doesnt put you in a good position to offer advice.

There is always some-one who knows more than you.
When i want advice on diving equipment ill let you know.

Oh and as for Mr Vodafone man....??? i have a contract with vodafone, so whats your point.
