Not had bike long and it rattles on tickover. Have replaced timing chains but not primary chain. I have an extra engine to 'practice' with - is it a hard job?

Thanks a lot!

Don't know about "hard" but it's a bit involved. The crank will have to come out as the primary drive is central. I'd check the tensioner first. Those duplex chains are designed to run almost for ever, what's the mileage?

When it comes to purtting the motor back together, always clear the oil galleries well, esp the top end, and at least 3 times Wink

thanks. Mileage is 18000 miles and it's also An American import.been stood about 8 years in uk. Just the rattle- should I live with it and not bother!!

Thanks again, Paul

Sorted, the rattle wasnt the primary chain. Problem solved, just something loose! The starter clutch!

My uncles got a cb900f2 (near enough exactly the same as the 750) and from what i remember, the cam chains had a habbit of chewing their way through the cam chain tunnel back in't day Shocked

Saying that you'll 'probably' be fine Laughing

It could have been an earlier year actually, but i think you're actually supposed to adjust the cam chain whilst the engines running.

EDIT: Sweet bike that Drooling . Original exhaust?

My uncles got a 4 into 1 neta system on his, doesn't look particularly good though. I think the original spec is 4 into 2, And from what you've said it most likely is the original. I'd deffo go fo a chrome one, just for the epic shiny-ness Laughing
