Just wondering what people think of peds

they have a purpose, which are short town jurneys, but thats it

having owned a speedshite 100 for nearly a year i can safely say i hate them

hate the reputation you get given due to other idiots who ride like praneths i.e. not stopping at stop signs etc and riding like genralised idiots

esp when i go out of my way to be safe on mine and be curtious

also cars have little to no respect for you and i can be cruising at 60 on mine and some idiot will overtake me on a 60mph road

and people pull out on you as they think your going 30 when your going 60

dont like the way the transmission works

cant wait to get a bike, whats your opinions?

I'm not a fan of scooters, but I think that is purely the image thing!! SO SHOOT ME!!

But, no, seriously, I have a friend, who's just got into scooters because her new man's into them in a big way and him and his mates have got some pretty big scooters, I think (don't quote me) one of them is a 600cc?!? Is that possible.

Anyway, not my cup of tea, but different strokes for different folks and all that.

I can see where you're coming from about people's attitude's as well, just because of a minority of twats, everyone gets tarred with the same brush!!

The sooner you get a real bike, the better mate!!!

i agree a scooter is not a real bike, there piss takes

un reliable

and pointless

and the big 500/600 cc have a quarter of the performance of a 600cc bike and all the shite handling of a smaller scooter

11 days untill my test, i better bloody pass and sell on the speedshite so some un suspecting fool

They do what they are designed to do. Like most bikes.

I don't have a problem with them. Two weeks commuting for £5 of petrol would be nice.

The maxi scooters are just like having an automatic car really. They waft along, they're not exciting but they do the job. Meh.

I have to say I would not be seen dead on a scooter, I think they are utter utter sh1te!

Saying that, if other people like them, it is up to them.

Image, shmimage! I have the image of a fair weather rider, fag biker, and everything else people want to call me. Don't care, love the bike I ride!

I am sure scooter/ped boys feel cool in their own way and probably love it to.

Still amuses me your Speedshite 100! LOL

Cool

i did try and inject some character into it though by parking it over a drain cover and letting it fall over (full set of new un damaged panels

and letting the exhaust rust (re-painted now)

check my bad (shit) scootay

Peds have their place.

Both of my sons are currently on peds, one because he commutes to college/work and it's the cheapest option for him, and the other because he's 16 and its all he is allowed. Thumbs Up

You can't judge a type of bike by the people who ride it - well you can I suppose but it shows a lack of imagination on your part IMO.

Some ped-riders go on to become "proper" bikers with "proper" bikes, some don't. Anything that gives someone a chance to get out on two wheels and get bitten by the bug is OK with me.

Personally I wouldn't ride a ped, because I don't feel comfortable on one. This is to do with me though, as when I was a kid I always had racing bikes - I just couldn't cope with the little wheels on girlie shopping bikes, and peds give me the same problems. Embarassed

Other road users will not give you any respect no matter what you are on/in, I get idiots in cars (and on bikes) trying to overtake me when I'm doing 60 in my car sometimes. Always ride like the other guy is going to do something stupid, and nine times out of ten you will be ready for him when he does! Rolling Eyes

As a last note, when I'm out on the bike I always nod to peds as well as other bikes. After all, that could be a future biker when it grows up a bit..... Cool and the delighted smiles & nods back I get from some are more than worth the ignorance of the rest.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - my other half also has a rat-ped, which he goes out to play on sometimes!

I will post up a picture when I get home later if I remember.....

they look nice, hence why i bought one, knowing very little and only wanting (or thought) town trips, ended up wanting to go longer distances at 60mph, which is just no good on a 100cc hairdryer

i like my ped, ive had 4 'real' bikes since, and i havent sold the ped yet

first off, at 16 its all you can have, its damn useful, and it got me on this forum, nothing bad in the slightest about that

they are cheap to run, tyres last forever, consumables are non existant, 2 stroke if it is but not a lot, easy to ride, great for traffic, relaxing, nippy up to 15mph

they are fun, getting the front to slide is a supreme effort and when it does its far less scary and less likely to go all the way out before you can get it to grip again, the back sliding feels almost natural and is amusing when it happens, they are flickable

they have storage, a huge amount for a bike, under the seat, its lockable and secure, they are light enough to lift round without straining yourself, protection, when you drop it, your legs are protected, i binned mine riding home from school in a suit at 30, i was wearing leather jacket, gloves and lid, and my legs didnt have a mark cos there were inside the footwell the whole time, which meant i still have a non ripped suit Thumbs Up

bad stuff, the rep...chavs can afford them, and as a result, you get the "loitering outside macdonalds" crew on a friday night with helmets resting on their ears... and they pop up everywhere, ride like idiots, and get everyone to hate scoots

i dont like the scoots vs the rest of the world, attitude that too many people have, and i wish they would be more considered a motorcycle, but the chavs are never gonna disappear so its never gonna happen

but they definately have their place, and if you dont like them, dont ride one Thumbs Up

Peds and people who use 'em (sorry) are a pain in the arse.

Firstly, they don't go very fast. A slow-moving vehicle in a 60/70 limit is dangerous. Have to say though, it always makes me laugh when I see someone on a ped, revving the bollocks off it with his head down as if in a feeble attempt to streamline himself.... all the while doing 34mph.

Second, people on 'peds tend to try to weave through slow-moving traffic like idiots. I've seen them change lanes between the bumpers on stationary cars before now. I've also seen them ride on the pavement to avoid standing in line like the rest of us.

Last, people on 'peds simply do not dress for the occasion. T-shirt and shorts won't save your life, although admittedly you'd look a right twat on a 'ped while wearing leathers. But there has to be a 'middle ground' somewhere.

Ped's don't really bother me much, i think there quite fun though and a good learner for getting onto a bike.

I'm always of the opinion that 2 wheels is better so i guess i'm biased.

I don't mind them, as a commuting tool they do a worthy job.

It's just the wanky clueless twats that ride them!

I nearly got knocked off by one the other day. I was about to turn left into a parking space when this prick undertook me at about 50 through the smallest of gaps! I never even saw him coming.

Unfortunately for him, the lights up the road had changed to red.

Sod parking, I'm seeing red and I'm off after him. Christ, did he get a mouthfull.

Well imo peds are dangerous. I know that they are useful for 16 year olds that wanna get around but they are far too slow.

Hi,

I used to have a ped not so long ago until i got the nsr. The thing i disliked about them was the riding position (not having anything between your legs), and the severe lack of gears. Plus the speed was absolutely shocking (45mph downhill) so i decided to do a little mods. Exhaust and big bore kit did the trick until it blew up and became a money eating monster.

If i had the choice between a 50cc ped or a C50 then i would definitely go for the C50.

I think peds are shocking and would not waste my time on one. They are over-rated, over-priced plastic hairdryers. (No offence to any ped riders out there, this is just my opinion).

Cheers.

Peds are extremely comfortable. I've had a go on a 100 Speedfight. Yes they are slow but you could sit on one all day. As for 50cc scooters, if you want cheap transport at what better way, then go ahead. Personally I wouldn't have one about me but some (Aprilia SR125) are a lot quicker than you'd expect.

Mine was about as comfortable as a pushbike with no seat, probably because i'm six foot two.

I rode a 50cc Scoot from November 2000 to July 2001, and its what got me "into" 2 wheels.

I would be driving a cage now if it was for my little MBK Stunt, and me trying to lean it as far as I could around roundabouts and getting alot of respect from bikers, which also made me get the feel for wanting to get onto bigger bikes.

Granted 30MPH is utterly slow, and you don't get anywhere fast and handling isn't great on them but they do what there meant too and get some young people into bikes like they did me!
