Came off the bike today on the way to college. Roundabout SOAKED in oil, slowed to a crawl but still ended up going over. Police have shut the road off, the spillage was that large. Apparently a bin lorry engine has semi-exploded and the driver has kept on going. 3 other cars involved in accidents because of it. Rear brake lever bent and scratched, mirror scratched, waterproofs torn to shit and a sore knee. Apparently the company are liable and I should be able to claim, which i'm looking into as we speak.

Glad your not too badly hurt Thumbs Up I think its hard to claim from a company in this sort of situation, im still waiting a payout from the council for bending a wheel in a pothole. Good luck though Smile

Damn, bad luck. Nowt you can do about that, except total up all your losses and get recovering.

Is it in the spill counter yet?

As there will be a police report and other vehicles suffered the same fate as you, it should be easier to claim.

Coming from tyne dock towards the A19, you go over a roundabout at the bottom of a hill next to a (shell? esso?) garage. You can turn right onto Jarrow Road or go left up the hill leading towards simonside metro station. First roundabout as you ascend that hill. Next to taybarnes (if it's still open). Outside lane, very slow, slippy slippy, no real point in an amusing paint diagram.

Few injury claims solicitor places say I've got a pretty solid case. Made stronger (as suggested) by the other vehicles affected, police awareness and magnitude of the spill.

If the authorities are aware of which vehicle casued the spill, then they know where to apportion the blame. I know of a bus company in york that had one of their vehicles leave a trail of diesel behind it. Someone followed it, notified the police and said bus company received three claims through and had to accept full liability.

I'd say you're pretty safe for a claim! If your clothing/helmet are damaged, remember that these items are single use and need to be replaced! Wink
