Hi all,

This may be better placed in the touring section but I'm not sure.

Myself and two friends are planning a road trip to the Nurburgring over summer ( one Porsche, one very tweaked Mini Cooper and me on my ZX6R).

I've been riding a good few years and am wondering if it would be worth taking any post test training before setting off. Unforetunately Thames Valley don't offer the Bikesafe scheme and I'm not exactly overburdened with money at the moment.

I'm guessing at least a trackday training session would be a good start - can anybody make any recommendations?

I only ask as there seem to be hoardes of them turning up on google searches all claiming to be the best etc.

cheers

John

You can do bikesafe in London at the Ace cafe.
Or, talk to 'TVAM' - they offer a free first day which is fairly similar to bike safe, though a little less formal and patronising (still a bit patronising - though it was amusing turning up on crutches to my first day there Very Happy). Thames Valley Advanced Motorcyclists, by the way.

Trackdays, definitely worth it too.
I'd just go and do a few trackdays if you can. If you're short of money, where ever's cheapest Smile.
You can get free basic instruction on the day if you ask for it.

I suspect for the Nurburgring you're definitely going to need a mix of both skills - as it's a complex track that's not easy to learn quickly, 'reading the road' skills will be very important. Obviously being happy chucking your bike on it's side, getting on the power early etc will be important too from the trackdays.

IAM and RoSPA both do free "assessed rides" to get you to join their gang - you should be able to find local covens for both of them.

Might get a bit Downfally though.
