Did anyone here partake in any?
Just watched the official vid of the new Chase and Status track, 'Blind Faith'. I was but a nipper at the time and was wondering what all the fuss was about.
Did they clamp down on illegal raves and what was the problem with them? ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

The 'problem' with them was that the establishment couldn't stomach the fact of young people having a good time on drugs and dancing to pukka music, so if they could find one they'd send their thugs (the pigs) to assault people, smash up equipment and generally behave like criminal terrorist scum.
And yes, they were good times (so long as the pigs didn't make an appearance). One of the best, which was a yearly event until the pigs discovered it, was on a secluded beach at Hollywell in Eastbourne. A small event by most standards but the quality was right up there. We had a projector which put a big light-show up onto the face of the cliff. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Plenty towards the end of the nineties - buy way past their 'peak'.
So none of the massive ones, with en-suite theme park, etc, but plenty of small ones in fields, farm buildings etc and some bigger ones in old factories (ie decent few thousand people, maybe ten sound systems including some quite big ones, etc.)
Never had any major trouble with the police those days - had them come and turn the genny off at one small one; it was back on as they were walking out. Often had them turn up in the morning at the bigger ones in London and just park up outside (never saw anyone got stopped and searched etc, though sure some did), but then considering there were always some twunts trying to smash the windows of other local buildings in the morning, don't blame them . |

That kind of music is very basic/primevil and appeals to the reptilian part of the brain while it's wrecked on narcotics. Trance subsequently shat all over it when it was discovered that music can also appeal to the neocortex (while wrecked on narcotics) and melody, in particular, offered a superior buzz. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Here in the Cotswold’s I had a few connections I could rely on for the parties.
You’d call this number at a certain time in the year and it would be a voice mail for the directions how to get to the party.
The one year it was being held on some farm land, the year before the farmer had dug trenches all around the barns etc so you could really have a party there…to my surprise the party still went on, when I got there, the ravers had built ramps over them!
I was drinking Stella all night supplied by some friends who had been to Calais that day. About 1am I was stood around a camp fire with a group who had all been taking this brew of mushrooms…passing It around. I was only drunk really so I noticed the police chopper overhead. The look on the people’s faces when they realised was priceless.
About 45minutes later, there were vans, cars, police dogs, the lot. Kit was confiscated and people had to leave pronto. Top night! ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Went to loads from around 1988-1991. But by 1992 it was pretty much all over. Some were great, many were shite, lots were stopped either before they happened or once they were underway. At one stage there was a pretty effective campaign of misinformation that used to send van loads of old bill to the wrong location
It was largely greed that brought the (original) rave scene to an end, as is usually the case with most things. ____________________ The RXS100: vehicle of choice for Chuck Norris |
