Dodgy title,

But im refering to S.M.I.D.S.Y.

Using the car this morning i was sat at a T junction waiting to pull out, all was clear so i set off, but half way out i had to brake sharply, a black moped appeared out of nowhere almost ploughing into my near side indicator.

He carries on, looking behind as he goes; continually cursing me....

At this point i felt pretty bad, not had the best day then almost took this chav out. Anyway at the next set of lights i jump out, go have a chat and apologise. Explain im a biker too an i know how it feels but for fucks sake he shouldnt ride in the gutter. Also, to consider getting some proper gear since in a crash his trackies would be more harm than good.

I reckon his riding in the gutter hid him in the A pillars blind spot, no excuse for me had i hit him but maybe itll make him think ahead next time, will for me!

Moral is, on here we're all too quick to rant at cagers for shit obs and lack of common sense, can happen to us too Karma

I've had moments in the past where I have pulled out on somebody without seeing them, it happens to everybody at some point I'm sure.

On the positive side, it wasn't a tractor this time. You'd have come off best in the hostilities Laughing

I always expect it if i see a car at an approaching junction and try to plan an escape route. What really gets to me is when they pull out on you then pretend it never happened, just a quick initial 'oh shit glance' then ignore the fact that it happened, it's always women that do that.....always. Men tend to either put there hand up or give you a flash of the hazards to say sorry. But women convince them selves almost immediatly that it was somehow your fault, guess that's just how women work Laughing

I did it in the car before... dude was riding a CG125 but doing about 45 in the 30. pulled out of the clear junction then all of a sudden he comes flying over the crest and near enough parks himself into the back of my car.

Then overtook me giving me a lovely gesture as he went by...

Ever since I moved from the CG to the GPZ i've noticed a real drop in the number of people pulling out on me... still get the odd few though i'm always ready for it. make sure i'm riding in the right position and the like so i can see them and they can see me.

It is with a sad resignation following some bikers when commuting sometimes. Sometimes even the smallest of minor errors is met with shouting, gesticulation and revving loudly, I mean just chill out for chrissakes. Drivers can be dumb, yes, and do dumb things (and anyone who drives and rides will know this) but unless they're actually putting you in real serious danger then just deal with it and move on. You're still going to get there long before they do.

Being too quick to get all self-righteous also means they'll be less willing to help out when some properly serious idiot does try and kill you further down the road.

Relax, enjoy the ride.

Laughing Cheers TS, i cant disagree.

Yesterday i felt like death warmed up, pulled sicky an probably wasnt in an ideal frame of mind to be anywhere but bed.

What shocked me was his apologetic attitude when i jumped out, apologising to someone who nearly hit me is the last thing id be doing.

Probably bricking himself that you were going to: A) leather or B) arrest him for riding without Ze Papers. Chavvy pedboi = like as not riding his luck.

Anyway, good on you for stopping in time, and it's a salient reminder that in practice it's up to us to make ourselves seen.
