It's taken me a year to find a replacement seat for my H100A, one that the metal moth hasn't chewed beyond repair lol...anyway it's in pretty good nick overall except it looks like someone has been spraying near it and a small haze of silver overspray has got on some of the cover.

To remove it I'm thinking maybe a little Nitromors on a cloth and give it a gentle rub or does anyone have any other suggestions? The cover is in fine fettle otherwise so i'd like to save it and don''t want to damage it.....

Nitromors might melt the cover , try white spirit on a cloth Neutral

Some light T-cutting might remove it.

I used some 'safe-cut' and it didn't do much so used the proper cutting fluid.
Remember to polish/wax afterwards.

Some polish could do the job.

Petrol is easy to get hold of and when used on a rag will help rub off paint.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'm a bit worried about using T cut or similar...won't that dull the finish of the cover or will polish after sort that out?

If nothing works you could always spray it black.

As suggested, petrol or thinners will sort it but I have no clue as to the likely damage either will do to vinyl. Whatever you use I suggest you test it underneath the seat on a small piece that is not going to be seen.Make sure you clean it off with soap and water as soon as possible.

This will work, and will leave the original finish well alone which chemiclas/solvents may not. It takes a while, but is really good stuff:

Nitromors needs time to work, and it will eat the original paint/powder coat off in a snap.

To the best of my knowledge a seat is covered in vinyl and not painted or powdercoated. HTH

Thinking about it don't they tell you to pour the nitromors into a plastic pot? Ummmm I'm going to try it on an old seat cover and see what happens.

They do tell you to use the lid of the can, which is plastic, and yet I have used it to remove powder coat (which I am guessing is a form of plastic coat??) from old MG wheels.

let us know what happens!

Cellulose thinners would be a lot easier in this instance I reckon.

Totally agree, its why I said it earlier. Doesn't stop the desire to experiment though. Can I try some of your acid on my seat as well? Wink

Well yes and no lol...i already had some nitromors so i thought i'd do a test with it on the underside piece of the vinyl. I used a white piece of cloth which almost immediately started turning black from the vinyl itself so stopped straightaway!

Looks like it'll have to wait until the weekend so i can get hold of some thinners and try that.
