Just a FYI for all those using the A2 to commute.
There's a Police Fazer doing regular patrols at all times of day at the moment. I saw a bike had pulled a car up a couple of evenings ago, and a guy at work saw a bike on the hard shoulder up in the 50 limit yesterday. Apparently it's a Fazer and hard to spot in the mirrors it's a copper, so beware if it's your usual rat-run.

I saw a bike pulled Eastbound near the Lewisham turnoff of the 3 lane 50 limit. Unmarked black beemer is what I thought it was (quick glance though) but a mate says it was an R1...

Are you saying it was a newish FZ1?

What is the best thing to say when you get stopped by a bike copper?

I have been stopped a few times for speeding and followed directly to my home once! Luckily they just told me to slow down and give me the talk etc... although the car that followed me must have been a traffic cop trying to do me.

I always fear that traffic cops on bikes are there to just to give you a fine and points! If you're caught, anyway out of it?

I'd presume being polite and not trying to weasel out of it helps. Works with police in other situations, haven't had enough experience with traffic police to find out of it's true there as well.

If you do not have to admit something then don't. They are there to catch you out and get as much evidence as possible against you. If you can lie and deny then do that. Always be polite though. There's ways to go about talking to the police. It's not in your interest to give them anything you don't need to give them, but be reasonable even if you're not telling them anything. They are just people doing a job.

Sometimes they may not have the evidence for it to hold up in court and are relying on getting an admission.

Yes I learnt not to admit to anything from reading on here, and also I am always poilite. That does work on normal cops, but do traffic cops ride at the speed limit or something and if you go faster then they have you?

I tell all my biker buddies to just stay calm and not talk back if we can get done for something like a small plate. One of my friends who is an angry type of guy got mouthy when I was speeding. I kept quiet thinking oh oh. His brother is a copper and he said he will call his brother blah blah. I was like for fuck sake I might get done if they want to do me, and luckily they saw I was a nice guy and let me off. They then started to question him on why he had no L plates (He rides a Yamaha R125)! He kinda stumbled and started saying he did his A2. He didn't do one but we got lucky!

So basically if a traffic cop wants to do you, he needs a laser or it will go to court?

Dammit, now I have nothing to add!

Well, this: don't look at any evidence that they purport to have, i.e. speed gun reading or camera footage. They'd like to be able to note that you "acknowledged" the evidence. Don't make it that easy.

What I want to know is, what evidence do they use when they are riding and stop you?

If I get done by a gun, I assume it's 100% that you're done.

I don't think they need anything to do you, however the more evidence they can get against you the less chance you can get out of it. I would be inclined to pay a fine and points if I was caught speeding or something just to avoid the hassle.

Tbh the best advice you'll get is to keep a lookout and not get caught doing anything wrong. I got followed onto the motorway at 1am the other night so it was a case of 40mph (50 limit) with them behind me all the way to my destination. It's better to be 100% sure you're under the limit and it also makes it clear to the cop behind you that you know they have been spotted, and if they aren't overtaking you then it makes it clear to you that they're checking you out in some way.

I would also be very suspicious of any car tailgating me and slow down if I can't see them.

When I say "weasel out of it" I mean (for example): they've followed you for 15 miles at a ton or more. Probably not the time to say "It wasn't me guv".

I don't think there are any bikers that follow all speed limits, and I don't either or IMO I wouldn't enjoy a bike, I would go for a car.

I do look out for two people in the front seat with a fairly nice, clean car. Not sure, but under cover cops tend to have a certain look and so do their cars. Although I have been stopped by one before, they didn't do me.

Seems like traffic cops are their to fine you, while the rest are busy.

What I do like is, some days I feel to go at the speed limit for no apparent reason, and then the next minute you see the under cover car go blue and drive off to wherever. I kinda feel like yeah I am the man. Very Happy

Police

Q: "When did you last wash your bike? Your numberplate is dirty and your numberplate light isn't working.."

A: A while ago officer but thankyou for pointing out the blown bulb for me. As for the plate I shall clean it now.

Q: "How fast were you going back there?"

A: The speed limit sir. Mr. Green

From the other side of the fence, being polite is the best way, its the same in any job, if someone is nice to you, your go out your way to help them, if someone is a arse, you won't be as helpful will you?

Take your lid off and then speed away. I remember they didn't chase some bike thieves in Manchester or somewhere because it was deemed too dangerous due to them not wearing helmets.

There's a fazer thou and an r1 patrolling the A2/M2, plus a brand new M5... All black, all debadged.... Only way you know it's a bike cop is from behind check wires going to helmet, unfortunate enough to get tugged by one on r1.
Nice enough guy....im just one lucky fucker Laughing

I don't think they use bikes covertly for pulling people speeding, think its the same logic as not chasing speeding motorcycles for the added risk factor. Certainly they would not normally allow a bike cop to pursue a car at speed in pursuit.

true, usually the covert bikes will follow and gather evidence then radio for a marked car to pick up and deal with... so they can go scavenging for new vict...i mean law abiding citizens
