So my GN is dying rapidly, Chrome rusting over... bits breaking and just generally falling apart. My options are to sell it (I'll probably only get about 200 if I sell it) so that's not really an option haha run it into the ground without bothering with it.... Or fix up the bare minimum, which brings me up to the Rat idea.

I'm thinking of spraying all the chrome pounland-matt-black... once the forks are sorted, some cheapo black gaitors... Any other tips to decrease maintainance?

thing is I dont want everything to rot through, so I thought if I go over it with a cheap paint then it should stop it from rustin for a bit

if you really want it to stop rusting then go over all the rust patches with a wire brush then Kurust the bad bads, when that process is all done cover the lot in either bitumen/underbody sealant or red oxide primer, it'l last for ages with any of that stuff on it.

Cheers
John

Why do all you lot have this "individualistic" mentality? I'm just trying to solve some problems and maybe I actually like the matt black look? I'm just asking some tips on how to increase longevity in my motorcycle even if it means taking it to extreme measures, and people call this sorta stuff "rat bike". so I thought I'd use that term. I'm not deliberately ripping things off to make it look oh-so weathered and fucked up, it's just that certain issues do need addressing and I care not for its appearance.
John! Thankyou for your contribution =) I might just do that so long as it doesnt work out too expensive

covering the chrome in something to stop it rotting through isnt creating a ratbike, its preventive maintainance.

Do what you feels best Alex. If you're sure you're only going to get 200 lollies for it why not make sure it is just maintained? Smile

I had an old Suzuki GT 250 that was very tatty but mechanically sound and I just used to paint it with Black or silver paint when a rusty bit popped up and I used a brush Surprised Smile .

Everything else just got a squirt of squirty oil and a wipe over to keep the weather at bay.
I only ever did basic maintenance on that bike and it lasted for ages.

although it looked sh*t, it was still going strong when I sold it

Why not do the same
