Basically after two years of training for my nursing diploma i am now unable to complete my training before the 2012 deadline. So have been discontinued due to health reasons. Now has this happened to anyone before and if so what's the timescale for reapplying or would i be better trying a different Uni?

In my uni you can definately defer a year with no penalty if you're off due to health reasons.

I have a niggling suspicion that what you have already done counts for five years before you have to start the course from scratch. That was how it was when I did my nurse training, but that was 15 years ago now so they may have changed the rules..

Best thing to do would be to speak with you're tutor for their advice. Also ask for a transcript from the uni showing your marks for each unit, its stamped by them, and accepted at other uni's of proof that you have done what you say.

Yeah started April 2008 did my common foundation and passed everything, the had a Kidney infection and a stone removal December 2008, took a month off, then a hernia Op, so missed last placement.
Commenced 2nd year May 09, got to august and had to have some tests and had more kidney problems. Palpatations and fluctuating blood pressure (severe Hypertension 197/127!!!) told i could start back again March 2010, tests still ongoing from March, told to start back when i'm fit but no later than Sept 2010.

Found the problems were a adrenal gland in my kidney in August 2010, had this removed, and then lastly a Hernia Op again december 2nd.

Told i'd used my time limit up sowas discontinued for medical reasons.

Every thing in the kidney department seems to be working now, blood pressure is well controlled. Hernia has been repaired properly this time.

Just after finishing or restarting my Nurse training now, don't want to be stuck as HCA for the rest of my life!

They qualify in 8 weeks i think! So do i just bang in another application for this september or next march intake.

Don't thnk they do the Dip HE anymore either, think its Degree level only.

And Mistergixxer, its really annoying, because i feel really healthy now and when i started i was very healthy. Even my tutor noticed i looked ill as i went from being quite broad and full of life to very pale and lost 2 stone in a short space of time.

Got my colour back and am slowly putting the weight back on Smile
