See if you can get Ilyushin2 (IL2).

You do have a joystick of course? If not, forget it.

That's the best of the CFS series, it's the Pacific theatre, Japs vs Yanks. Thumbs Up

Hope the download comes with the manual, you'll need it. Exclamation

Combat flight simulator 1 and 3 are European theater, 2 was the pacific theater which was the best as you had carrier operations and proper missions with a story line.

Thanks, I had a sneaky feeling I might be one out. But yes, the Pacific one was the best. Thumbs Up

I've got Pacific Fighters, which i believe is similar to IL2.

It's ok for the odd blast every now and then, but generally i find it pretty boring.

The skill levels seem to go from stupidly easy arcade to ridiculous unplayable complexity with very little in between.

The missions seem tediously dull and long-winded, and only playable if the time is sped up drastically, which kind of defeats the object i suppose.

So, really, all i ever do is stick it on 'instant dogfight', shoot a few planes down, get bored and then go kamikaze.

I guess i'm just not cut out for flight-sims.

Pacific War was the bastard love child of IL-2. If you get a copy of IL-2 1946, then it's got all the planes of the IL-2 series, Forgotten Battles, Aces Exp Pack, Pacific War and then some.

The IL-2 series are great if you like online dogfighting, otherwise they are very sterile and dry. They appeal to the rivet counters and those that fly to a stopwatch and then bitch that xyz plane doesn't fly according to whatever performance figures. Razz

Flight Simulator X and 2004 ACOF are civil sims with nothing to shoot at if that's your thing. There are hordes of planes and airfield mods out there for them, of varying quality, so if you just like wiggling a stick around and admiring the scenery then they're not too bad. There's also X Plane for civil sims.

CFS series are probably OK for beginners, tho the damage modelling is a bit pants.

There are plenty of others out there, but some of them are very long in the tooth.

Reasonable, but best suited for the mod that was made for it, Over Flanders Field (OFF), which is an utterly superb WW1 sim that ranks right up there with Red Baron 2.

For realism nothing beats FS9 (Flight Sim 2004) loads of upgrades for it. Graphics aren't on par with Flight Sim X, but it doesn't need a super computer to run.

I wish they'd bring out a new Combat FS based on FS X. That ought to be quite cool.
