Kinda worried

Started up the GN this morning, idling on choke as usual, pulling the choke out a bit more every minute or so, idlin at 1,500 rpm 1/4 choke and all of a sudden I felt the engine hit a brick wall inside and make a noise like *TANK* inside.
I initially feared the worst and thought my camchain had let go smashing the valves into the piston... I winced as I went to press the starter but all was well and fired up fine, she's been on par all day since. no strange noises or anything out of the ordinary, any ideas guys?

It engaged first gear.

Nope. cause it started back up fine and I didnt have to touch the gear lever. Also there was no forward jump from the bike, it was just inside the engine I felt it not in the back wheel or anything

The only other thing I could suggest is perhaps a partial seize. I appreciate its far less likely on a four stroke than, say, a two stroke, but still possible nontheless.

Yeah I guess... It has had a recent oil change and filter change... I normally let it idle to gently trickle heat into it to PREVENT that sort of thing... but oh well. Just really worried me. Might do a top end rebuild when the forks, chain and sprockets are done

Actually wait.... wouldnt detonation be extremely unlikely as the bike is cold?
Then again... if it was ready to come off choke and was running lean, doesnt that make it more susceptible?

If it was on choke it would be running rich, wouldn't it?

Conking out during warm up, any of 100 reasons, most of them pretty normal...

Now just think, if you traded this old beastie in for a brand new scooter, not only would every-one laught at you for riding a scooter, but ALL the 'charecter' these little flaws in teh GN endow you would miss, and not give you the opportunity to talk to other bikers about......

I dont miss these things AT ALL! they make me paranoid and prevent me from enjoying it cause I'm too worried something will break.
