Stewie and I want to take our kids out to play on a dirt bike (for a 15 year old) and a mini moto (for my 10 and 8 year olds). We were thinking about Four Marks this Sunday (we'll be taking our bikes too for a bit of a play) or maybe gingers.

Does anyone know which of these locations would be more suitable for kids? My two are likely to just need a flat oval to play on, Stewie's lad would probably go on more of a 'grown ups' track once he's found his feet.

ANyone got any thoughts? Four Marls is a trek so we wouldn't want to get there and find out that our kids weren't allowed to play etc....

Gingers sounds ideal. It has a flat oval, bigger 'outer track' which is still flat but more interesting and a bit faster and a 'inner track' with jumps.

Both are fine. Four marks has a flat oval too.

Four marks has got a few more 'interesting' places for you to play - and the kids could probably go for a play in the forest with you too (err, ok, that does sound a bit dodgy!)

However, if Gingers is closer, might as well stick with that, especially if they're just getting used to dirt bikes.

I think it might be 4 marks, not convinced that the absolute beginners on a minimoto would be too welcome on a 'proper' mx track. It's not even a dirtbike minimoto but a race rep jobbie so really I just need a flat strip of earth for them to ride on for a bit of fun.......while the adults play!

From what you guys know is 4 marks likely to allow nippers (8 and 10 year old girls) on such a mini moto to play? They'll have lid/gloves/mx elbow and knee pads on.....are there enough areas off of the proper track for them to play in relative safety?

Cheers gents Very Happy

To be honest, neither are good (road) minimotos - both are muddy and bumpy at best. Not great on a tiny bike with no suspension.
Gingers isn't a 'proper' track and both the ovals are often used by kids just starting out. In the middle of the first oval there's even a little straight path that people often use for the even-less confident kids.

Both places will be fine with kids, four marks is slightly harsher on kit, but sounds like you're sorted. BUT I still don't think either is great for proper road minimotos. I'd go to somewhere like Hullavington and ask if you can maybe get a bit of 'play time' booked in on a Sunday morning or something - not sure where else does mm in the south these days.

I'm thinking they might struggle, but they'll be so chuffed to even be revving a bike that they'll enjoy it regardless - If they enjoy it enough then I'll look into sorting them out with something a little more knobbly!

I just got through to four marks on the phone, it's open and running for bikes this weekend so there'll be a few of us heading down there for a play Very Happy

Could always see if you knew anyone with a pit bike they could borrow.
If I wasn't the other end of the country, welcome to borrow my fiddy (it's got a pitbike frame, so a bit bigger than stock fiddy's, but not TOO big).
Actually, slight possibility I might be coming down - if I am, might be able to chuck it in for you, but really not sure yet.

If you are coming down and could chuck it in that would be fantastic! Let me know if you can - I'm expecting to have my 300EXC, EC300 and XR250R (or KDX220R) with me if you fancy a play......

Sorry, other thing is you'd probably have to collect from Reading (but could possibly arrange a loan for a bit if you were wanting). Wrist still playing up, so gotta avoid playing really Sad.

However, as I say, really not sure if I will be. Will see how much stuff I get sorted this week.

Where is Gingers? is it near Fourmarks?

Sounds like an ideal place to get more familiar with my XR Very Happy

Gingers is near Gatwick so Four Marks is probably better for you.
While the main track at four marks has got a bit more to it, there's no problem taking it slowly and rarely more than a few people there - sometimes we've been the only ones.

I also think a sports style minimoto will be pointless at 4 marks. The oval track will be so bumpy I can't see the lad staying on or the bike getting any traction?!!? Confused

Razz

It'll probably be a bit better in the summer when the terrain is less hard work and the filter less likely to clog with mud/water!

Bought a reconditioned one off of eBay, claims it's immaculate and running perfectly, he's delivering it in an hour so we'll see then.....

Well, what fun that was Very Happy . I think I can safely say that we all had a good day ( all be it a bit of a wet one ), in attendance were, BigTobyD, Tom ( BTD's Brother ), Stalker, BikerAndrew, Launa, Saffron, & myself.
I would recommend the track at Four Marks, it had it all, lots of mud, jumps, a novice track, marked off enduro track through the trees leading to big muddy bowl, that you have to go through what can only be described as a swimming pool Shocked .
Here's some pics & and a link to the rest
