These are quite new to my world... I think I want 1.

Can be really handy but at the same time I can imagine that a cop could stop me and watch the video, can they do that, is it classed as a search?

Waste of money, chances are you'll not be using when you need it.
The police would need to get a warrant before they could use any footage as evidence.

Negative. They can seize any evidence they need at the scene if they've got reasonable suspicion or something.

You need a camera with the ability to wipe it at any given notice, so if a cop is going to pull you over you can press a button and BAM! What footage, officer?

Because the technology to recover data doesn't exist yet.

That is one thing that pisses me right off. I can spend an hour writing a document, then press a key and it disappears, never to be seem again. But just one image of a three year old with a pig and a goat that I just clicked on and I'm up for a 6 year stretch.

PACE 1984 Section 19 allows seizure, if you take literally Section 23's definition of "premises" as "any place".

PACE is one of the acts that coppers are actually drilled on, and it has been used to seize footage. I'm not aware of instances of helmet camera footage being seized, but if they want to seize it, they can.

Best option find a place to mount it that cannot be seen Wink

Often under a fairing is a good place.

Biggest issue with cam's is battery life or storage space. Some get round storage space by over writing data, but in the event of a crash. It could still keep running and remove the footage if you can't retrieve/stop the cam.

I'd like to say they are very useful, but each time i've crashed/been crashed into i've had the camera in my pocket rather than having it recording.

Little ones like the MD80 and other mini cameras are okay for short videos for youtube and the like, but if you want one for insurance purposes, just in case, you're better off with a bike mounted system with a bullet camera for your lid.

Once i've finished the bike, i'll be setting mine up so that i have a Solid state drive under the seat with the battery (or just run it off the bike's battery) and connect the helmet cam each time i'm getting on the bike.

If i had been recording when i got hit by the car, it would have saved a lot of time and effort with this insurance claim.

So it really depends what you want to use it for.

With the whole police issue, just make sure you're not recording when you're being a nutter, there's no point in recording anything anymore, since we all know what happens Brick Wall

Just an idea - no idea on feasibility:

Wired into the bike's ignition - possibly draws it's power from the battery (but only when the ignition is on Very Happy ), mounted somewhere on the bike (under the fairing sounded good). Therefore faff-free. Automatically overwrites previous data on the card so storage isn't a problem, and doesn't record at the full 15/20fps so it doesn't need so much data storage to be useful.

Intended purpose: Insurance purposes, but hidden from over-zealous copper's eye.

Job done imo, unless you land that-side-down and wreck the camera Doh! (probably not such a problem with MicroSD memory though as the card will hopefully survive).

How's that for Dragon's Den eh? Wink

I just use a cheap ATC 2k bullet cam which is mounted on a bar end. Picture and sound are shi*tish compared to Go Pro etc but it will show the idiot that drives into you and would probably prove a godsend in an insurance claim.

A big bonus is that it is waterproof and self contained so I can leave it on whatever the weather. Picked it up for £30 off ebay so not too expensive either.

Easy answer on the cop front...don't ride like a nob Thumbs Up at least not when somebodies watching Twisted Evil
