Mikilon M96 125 SUPERMOTO

https://image.nettix.fi/extra/bikeimg/746601_746700/mikilon-m96-125-sbn-746682_b_5f2244b7208ac4f8.jpg

Right here goes......

Im 16 and currently riding a Peugeot Speedfight 2 50cc. Im 17 in a couple of days and wanting to upgrade to 125cc. I have been looking around for bike around my budget (which isnt a lot).

I want a supermoto styled bike, and have been looking at the "Mikilon M96 125 SUPERMOTO" which i have to say im impressed with the look and sound of the bike. But...... i have been researching about the reliability and how easy parts are to source. I was surprised to find that it did have faults or should be say designed faults on the, which i know its to be expected as it chinese bike.

from what i have read, as long as you have a reasonable amount of knowledge with mechanics (currently working as a mechanic, also bought my speedfight as a non-runner) and do some basic maintainance on it they are ok.

Just wondering if anyone can enlighten me on my situation, and let me know about any faults you may know about.

Cheers Dan. Very Happy [/img]

Get your test, get a big bike.... you get more bike for your money.
If you have to get a 125 to get your test on, buy something easy to ride, easy to live with and easy to sell on, like a CG or YBR.

If it was cheap enough and I knew I could be bothered to do the necessary work on it right off the bat (ie full service and quality fluids off the bat as well as potential carb and exhaust work) I probably would be prepared to give a more reputable chinese bike a go.

However... I'd never have the guts to ride one with spoked wheels, given the god awful metals they tend to use it's just asking for a horrible accident Neutral

Doesn't matter so long as it's Japanese or Austrian.
Chinese bikes actually envy the relatively high quality materials that can be found in a kinder egg toy.
So KTM, Yamaha Kawasaki, Suzuki are all spot on, however the general trend of making supermoto's is a new one, previously people made their own by fitting road wheels and tires to a dirt bike. I suspect you have budget issues as you were considering a chinese bike, so you might struggle to find a factory supermoto in your price range as they're all quite new. So you might want to get a dirt bike now, then convert it later. Either that or trawl ebay for an already converted one

mikilon? didnt think they made road legal 125's .....
i know they make pit-bikes though......personally would avoid it, spares might be a problem. (as well as as the usual problems associated with buying chinese)
stick to a xr or dtr or similar,
cheers,
GAZ

30 secs on google shows they are owned a shaver company........cant see an details on what engines/parts they use, though i suspect they just assemble them from parts sourced in china.

One with a bigger engine in it......
If you are looking at Chinese 125's, you are on a limited budget.
125's are for newbies and low-rent commuters.
If you want a bike that has some style, flair or performance, then there are plenty of 125's that can offer it, BUT at a price......
And its a high one.
If you want a motoard / dirt bike, lets take a look at the Yam DT125 or the Honda XR125.
DT is boy-racer bate. You pay a lot of money for the fact that they are stylish, and supposedly have loads of performance. every kiddie wants one.
Most thrash the crap out of them....
So you either pay a HORENDOUSE amount of money to find a fairly new and or decent one, OR you end up buying something thats rather a bit of a 'heap' that dont look too good, and isn't reliable, if it goes at all, and you dont have to keep chucking money at it every time it breaks.
XR125 is the 'sensible' option.... you still pay loads for one, but they are a four-stroke, dog-slow, and tend not to be thrashed by boy-racers. Cheap to run and reletively reliable, but hardly inspiring.
NOW.....
Lets forget the fasion statement, and think abouty what we get for our money.
For what you'd get a dog of a DT for, you could get a pretty useful YBR125..... would be cheap to insure, cheap to run, and reletively pretty reliable.......
Forget what it looks like, or how much fun it is to ride, its ONLY for a few months until you can get tests sorted and a licence in your pocket.
At which point you flog it, pretty much for what you paid for it (unlike Chinky crap you'll be lumbered with until you give it away or it dissolves into the back garden!)
You can THEN go buy yourself something like an XT250 or DR350, or any other 33bhp complient dirt-bike, which may or may not have been motarded already by previouse owner.... PROBABLY for as much money as you flog YBR for.......
NOW that bike will costa bit more to tax each year, but probably no more to insure. Fuel will be similar, but instead of struggling to get to 65mph, and worrying about the engine blowing up..... it should do 70 with reletive ease, and a bit beyond.
No L-Plates you wont look like such a tit, and you'll have ALL the style you desire, plus performance, for JUST as much money, AND the licence and know-how to use it......
ALL inside your budget, all for the sake of sacrificing a little 'laughable' street cred, which you'd only have with your mates anyway, and hey, how much more cred would a 350 give you? for a few weeks on a noddy-bike?
It does NOT make any sense to ANY-ONE but a teen-age fasion victim trying to buy a fancy 125.....
Like I said at the start, what Super-Motard style bike would I suggest, One bigger than 125!
And there's NO reason why you cant have one, apart from some mental block in Learner's heads that they can ONLY have a 125, and thinking bike not big, they don't think big bike, bugger 125's get big-bike licence! They think little bike, and then try and find a little bike that has all the style and performance and everything else they want, all in a 125cc package, and wondering why its so hard!
You can have it all.... just NOT in a 125.... get a 125 purely to get your licence on, and for that, the 'style' is the last thing on the list of priorities......

Conversely, my Pulse Adrenaline has been OK, parts-wise. You do have to keep it lubed to buggery*, and pay special attention to anything with a thread, though. And keep a very close eye out for rust. There'll be lots of it.

Be under no illusions; a Chinese bike is more arseache than a Japanese one, and their grasp of metallurgy is laughable. If you're prepared to be identified as someone on a Chinese bike from a mile off (they're screamingly obvious to 90% of motorcycle riders), and are willing to put in the necessary time to stop the inevitable onset of corrosion and loosening bolts/fittings, and really really can't scrape the cash for a better-known make, then go for it.

Just be aware of what you're letting yourself in for.
