Ah ha, new chain is again, quite lose. Im wondering how, and why so quick.

Cg125...

I changed sprokets, chain etc.. early january.

It keeps needing adjustment. In jan I also put extra nuts on the adjusters to stop them moving.

So, if the adjusters/wheel have not moved, then that means the chain has worn?

Or is there something else that can move?

Either way its getting quite annoying. The chain was lubed with spray can PTFE wax stuff. I put quite a lot on and that should last more than a week....

Im going to go remove chain now, clean it up, and put it back....

thanks
Mark

Is it a cheap chain, as even a 125 will stretch a chain quickly (cheap one).

Yes, simple as.

You'll need to keep adjusting it periodically as it stretches, and when you run out of adjustment you'll need to replace it.

No need to take the chain off to lube it, though. Old engine oil and a paintbrush should do the job if you're feeling cheap, lube-in-a-can if you're feeling flush.

IIRC, a new chain will have a bit of a stretch on as it beds in, and then will settle down. Might be worth making sure you're not over tightening it, that can cause wear on the chain and, more importantly, cause issues in the engine.

Cheap chain,
You are overtightening it,
You aren't looking after it,
There is a problem with some bearings in the swing arm/wheel/suspension

Make sure the alignment is spot-on, if your chain is out of aligment it will wear very quickly indeed.

hmm.... I would agree but not on * this * scale. This morning I measured before taking it off, and I got 95mm! the top run was resting on the swing arm!

It was lubed, not very well, becuase I used grease/used engine oil, but it got done a few times last month. I guess it didnt help as it rained so much.
Im bought a can of spray chain wax. Ive now given it a very thick coating after cleaning.

I noticed however, that *both* gearbox mount bolts, BOTH were missing their nuts. And both are held in only becuase theres stuff not letting them all the way out. Im quite sure the lower one had snapped in its past, because its a good 15mm too short.

However, the holes are perfectly lined up, so it cant have moved... another rattle solved Very Happy

The book recomends 20-30mm slack. Ive always left it with a good 40 mm, so I dont see how im over tightening it...

I defiantly am looking after it, Ive spent about 5-10 hours a week fixing it...
