First ride overseas

I'm wanting to organise a trip with my mate overseas with the idea of seeing a WSB/Moto GP event, bit of a laugh and some nice weather..

Without jumping into the deep end, wheres the best place for this being a first timer?

Le Mans Moto GP? Magny Cours WSB? Assen Moto GP?

I did my first proper ride into Europe last year (previously to Oostende which doesnt really count).
Went to Nurburgring for the WSB in early September. Can honestly say it was one of the best 4 days I've ever had.

3 of us went over there, got 10am ferry to Dunkirk on Friday, blasted through Belgium and Germany approx 400 miles to Nurburg. Got a hotel in the town 400m from the entrance to the Nordschleife so we could walk down there every evening and watch the cars/bike start and finish their laps.

Walked into town each night, about 1/4 mile, for beer and dinner.

Rode down to Luxemburg on the Saturday, lovely smooth twisty roads and cracking countryside.

Walked to the circuit on Sunday, approx 30mins, loved the circuit and saw some great racing.

Then saw Shakey Byrne in a restaurant that evening so had a chat and got a pic.

Took a more scenic ride back through Belgium and France, again lovely countryside and some great roads.



Going again this year and doing more of a tour through the Black Forest either before or after the race weekend.

Thanks a lot, thats very interesting and I am very much considering that...

I've done a quick look into it and struggling to understand wheres best to buy the tickets? None of the websites seem like well established companies, and the official website 'book now' button is not active..

I've only really found this site, and the bronze admission says (Fri-Sun 55 euros) - is this per day, or all weekend?!, does anyone know?

I don't know how much there were, my dad paid for them.

He went through the wsb site. I had a look and it looks like they just haven't put the prices up yet. Assume they will be up closer to the time.

We stayed in Altes Forsthaus (or Ringhaus). Again don't know the cost exactly but it was conveniently placed and a nice bar (I know my priorities!).

If your feeling a bit more adventurous, try the MotoGP in Barcelona. As long as you avoid motorways the ride is superb especially after Paris although you must do the obligatory diversion for the Millau Bridge, then onto Barcelona via the Pyrenees.

The last time I did it, we took 2 1/2 days getting there and back stopping in small local hotels with 3 days in Barcelona with the bikes safely locked away!

Getting tickets was easy direct from the circuit.

Appreciate the offer Willmottm, but I think we're now set on WSB Nurburgring, what with it being a common tourist point etc (and bargain eurotunnelling!)

Our plan is Friday-Tuesday, allowing us to spend Monday trawling around the roads and generally sightseeing before heading back towards the UK on Tuesday.

I've seen that the Eurotunnel firm do breakdown cover which beats the likes of the AA, and is £30 odd for the 5 days we're there.

I've emailed the main WSB website to ask when tickets would be on sale on their site but not heard anything back. Im going to have to investigate further! The GP Tickets site is quite unclear on being a day pass or weekend ticket, might email them too!
