Well after crashing the YZF750R into the back of a car I did the sensible thing and brought a fiesta.

That was in February '10, the car was sold in October '10 and i resided to riding my first bike (rieju rs1) over the winter ice and snow. Now most of the bad weather has gone (I hope) i'm picking up the new bike tommorrow, and will MOT and tax it. The total cost should be around £900 if the MOT goes to plan.

I so damn excited to get back onto a real bike again. Pictures to follow tommorrow. The bike is a '96 thunderace with 48k, thats all i know for now.

That's all for now...

Well MOT's, taxed and insured all done today.

Lost all my confidence going around corners, its like ive forgotten how to countersteer, so hoping its not pissing it down all day tommorow like it was today..

Heres some rushed pictures ive got today..

https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn9/nick-hall/thunderace/IMAG0124.jpg

https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn9/nick-hall/thunderace/IMAG0125.jpg

It seems to have all the extras i would of considered buying, goodridges all round, fuel exhaust with removable baffle, wavy's, dark screen, comfy custom seat (can't work out if its gel?' Just looking for a luggage rack now.

Oh also got the single seat cowl, a hugger, some oxford sports panniers and a spare C+S chucked in with the bike. Just got to learn how to ride it now!

More pictures to follow after its had a decent clean.

Nick

Looks nice! Great find for under £1000

Its such a great feeling getting back on one after such a long time. Takes a little bit of time to get the confidence back after an accident but it will come Smile.

Ride safe!

Thanks, I guess

Well my luck/skill/behaviour is obviously still poor.

I've managed to highside coming out of a petrol station forecourt, crash bung saved the day, but still fairing cracks and exhaust scuffs. I'm going to go back to as close as I can to original colours, but need to wait until pay day so I can get a dremel/plastex to repair the fairing.

Bad times atm, I really need to get a grip of this bike before june, as i'm meant to be off to france for a week.

Diesel on the road, along with a combination of too much throttle.

I was turning left, the back wheel slipped travelling right (bike learning to the left), it then gripped and chucked the bike right.

No way am I having another car. I've been a full time rider for 6 years, apart from the 6 months with a car.

Confidence doesn't seem to be a problem. I think the throttle happiness and control has disappeared from my choice of bikes.

50cc (1yr)- 500cc (2yrs) - 600cc (1yr) - 125cc (1yr) - 750cc (2 months) - 50cc (6 months) - 1000cc (2 weeks)

Not doing to well, the only bikes I kept rubber side down was the 600cc, 125cc and the second 50cc.

My commute is 10 miles a day, and I've only been on one weekend away. I noticed the oil go down slightly, but not enough to top up. I probably haven't even done 500 miles yet. The previous owner did give me 1/2 litre of oil, that I keep in my tank bag.

Would,nt worry about the level till the oil light comes on, yamaha,s use a oil level float switch instead or with a oil pressure switch, so just top up when the light comes on.

I think it was a 1 week trip to scotland with wave and scott that l ended up using 12 liters of oil. Laughing

I almost got one of these a while back. God damn i thought my 955i was big, but this is a bus.

Allot of bike for under £1000 though. Just out of interest though, why did you go for a 1000cc bike after crashing/losing your confidence?

It came up cheap, I was looking for a GSXR600 srad really. But for 500 quid, and knowing of the bikes background over the last few years I couldn't say no.

My confidence only gets knocked for the odd ride, I think its because i've never really hurt myself.

Not ideal, particularly for my short commute, but insurance isn't bad considering my liking for putting bikes down the road.

I'm going to look into bikesafe/IAM ect training, I need a refresher!

They may well include the following advice, but at least we won't charge for it here:

Quote:
BCF Guide to Safer Riding, Section 5, Article 32, Paragraph 2: ... and remember to apply a smoother throttle action when exiting diesel-strewn petrol station forecourts.

Neither had l, all burn though the engine no leaks and no foweled plugs, worst was 500ml in 10 minutes when l did a indicated 185mph run on the M4.

Was glad to get rid of it.
