Hi all

Whats the legality of using a bicycle light on the GP100? As some would know the 6v lights are pants!

Could i fit this without the coppers pulling me?

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CREE-XR-E-P4-LED-BIKE-LIGHT-TORCH-ZOOM-MOUNT-3-MODE-/320657107801?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights&hash=item4aa8a72b59

someone posted some silly LEDs that almost has HIDs output capability!

cheers

Following on from my concern in the previous thread, and having read a few DfT pages, it appears that the bulk of what they're worried about is actually the light scatter pattern, more than the amount of lumens expressed, so I'd imagine that they're not.

my moped light was shite using an original stock recommended bulb (standard type tbh).

I bought this on a whim, advised from a few people it could make a difference, I couldn't see the road infront of me with the stock bulb, hence me wanting an upgrade.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H6M-BA20D-395-XTREME-WHITE-XENON-MOTORBIKE-35-35W-BULB-/220656857279?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item33602c70bf

It made a huge difference, full beam goes further and brighter when its on and I can't fault it. My moped has 6v electrics so its worth the £6 or so to get a decent bulb.

The light you suggest would not be legal as a main light and you wouldn't be able to run it constantly as an auxilary one.

First replace your battery, this is the main cause of poor lights on a 6v setup.

Replace the rear bulb with one of these (clicky) which will free up some power for the headlight.

If your headlight stills dims when the indicators are in use fit these (clicky) and a suitable indicator relay.

It's also worth an hour or so making sure your wiring, switches and connectors are all up to scratch; clean and securely connected etc.

As blue has said, that what i'm worried about, but then you get cyclist everywhere riding with them on!

thanks sickpup for the ideas. Battery is new but even without a battery it still produces the same light output!

Might try and find something to replace the bulb with. Yes the indicators are shit and ideally I would like to strip the whole loom out and start again.

Yes the idea was to run the cree torch together with the stock light and as my trips are short ones, I don't mind charging up the batteries now and then.

you sure your moped is 6v electric? That link is for 12v so only half the light output would be used

Yup. Manual and local place I get bits from states its a 6v moped (granby motors in derby/long eaton).

I was looking at the indicator bulbs yesterday and noticed they were 12v though, got me thinking that if it were a 6v bike, why would it have 12v bulbs everywhere? Confused

That's the bulb I used anyway, made a huge improvement.

?!!?, if its 12v there and there, check the battery, that can't be 6v then as well?

I`ve used a hand-torch on a small bike (YB 100) in the past and never got tugged for it.
I used a LED type torch and secured it to the handlebars using a mount that shooters use to mount torches to the barrels of thier guns for lamping.
The mount was adjustable so I could get the beam to point downwards.

Did that for about 4 months, although I tried not to use it unless I really had to.
I got me by, but I`m sure that the bike would not have got an MOT like that.

I`m not saying it`s right, I`m just saying what I did in a similar situation Thumbs Up

Hi

What condition is the reflector inside the headlight? Not sure on the GP but quite a few small bikes use direct power for the headlight. If this applies to the GP then check the resistance through the generator coils just in case there is a short.

With 6V and 12v, 12V bulbs will work in 6V bikes just will be dimmer. Possible that someone has lobbed 12V bulbs in as they couldn't find 6V ones.

All the best

Keith

reflector's fine, will check the genny resistance but as its powering the lights as expected. Its just that the bulb is so naff. I had a look around and you can't even buy xenon 6v bulbs either! I know the demand for them is low so they don't bother

Will that fit straight into my bike where one of these (see below) type bulbs go?

Yes mate, that bulb is the same as the standard bulb I took out my moped and replaced with the bright white bulb from ebay. when I first start my moped the light is a dull yellow, once its warm (a few minutes just idling normally) it turns white and then when I'm motoring about its even brighter. I can't fault the bulb at all and really impressed. Will be buying a few more though for future use and spares.
