I was just going by the tick on the tacho!
I usually aim for the lowest smooth idle.... the three runners I have will idle that low, on the tacho at least!
Anyway, start with all the other bits of start servicing.
Oil, strainer... STRAINER!
wip carbs off to get at cam-chain tesnioner, then do tappets & adjust cam-chain tensioner... do when do tappets, so you can waggle the tensioner blade to help it take tension, then covers back on, and carbs back on.
BUT, and the bit that was vexing me, the choke linkage is the awkward bit.
Choke cable works on left hand carb, and theres a wampy bent tin flex link between butterflys.
Often one choke wont fully open or close.
If you get the air-boxes out of the way, once carbs re-fitted, you can make a BIG difference fiddling them.
Sometimes the bitterfly's catch the casting.
AND Right hand chole some-times wont stay fully open.
The corporal has a hair-elastic between the flex link and a cable tie tound the frame tube to help make it stay fully open...... low-tech 'mod' but does the job!
Air-boxes back on, check the filters, probably originals, they ar £30 a pair top replace! Make sure they haven't turned to paper-mache!
Then, set High idle by lifting slides with twist grip, and cradually bring it down winding screws out.
THEN balence on the cables. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I'm doing the oil when the other half gets back, and I'll check the air box at the same time.
I really need to do valve clearences, not because there's anything wrong, but it's what I had wrong with the old one and don't want the same again.
Going to tension the cam chain today as well, do I just undo the nut, let it ping it's self (automatic?) and then tighten the nut again while holding the pin? I think that's what the manual says.
With the valve clearences, do I get the marking on to TDC and then do both at the same time, or do I have to do it a different way? ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille
