Anyone else a user? I'm on it and have been for ages, but wondered if anyone from BCF was a user on it for adding?..

I've gone through this thread but didn't want to add people if they no longer use it...

WTF is the point in it.

Seems like a site dedicated to the most annoying part of social networking (status updates). Seriously cannot see the appeal unless you like stalking a retard off TV.

I use it to follow DJ's in a similar fashion as Svedebo, I use it for other things to, post quite a bit although not as much as I could do.

Info to the masses without the masses having to visit your website. So handy for things like news (be that 'proper' news or news in your chosen niche, eg. I follow a lot of music mags).

Why 'normal people' tweet is a bit vague. But as a marketing tool, it's pretty powerful - in my experience there are people who'll follow your brand on twitter (and/or 'Like' you on Facebook) but aren't actually bothered to ever visit your website. It's also very fast - news will spread like wildfire.

And finally, it's just another one of many distractions we embrace to take our minds off real work. It's amusing watching a bunch of BSB riders taking the piss out of each other by tweet, for example. Pointless... you bet your arse it is. But so's most of the internet. Laughing

+1.

Loads of journalists on there and they will "tweet" news before it appears on news websites.

I work in Central London and last week a colleague said people were running late as there had been a bomb scare somewhere. She'd checked some websites and no joy...

I pulled out my phone, within 15 seconds I knew when and where it had taken place. Good old Twitter Smile

Obviously, anyone here is a bike fan, if you happen to also be an Android phone or NFL fan, then add me Wink

A twit twitters.

what I don't get is why people pretend to be someone else on twitter?

I tried to use it but kept forgetting who I was and couldn't find the people I wanted to follow.

It's been useful a couple of times, e.g. Appulo.us put a "Troll Bridge" question gateway onto their site that only those in the know could get past, and they'd change the question regularly. The latest answer was on Twitter within a few minutes of it being changed.

I can maybe understand it for a news reporter or a band or a company/retailer but for Joe Bloggs, really, is facebook not enough when it comes to knowing what the average persons every waking thought is Rolling Eyes

I didn't get it the first time I used it. Been using it again for about 6 months and really get a lot from it now. Not only do I keep up with news from a very small data footprint, I can PM friends on there for free.

I do talk a load of bollocks though.

What about those that don't want to give all their information to Facebook for them to sell on your behalf?

I don't really understand why people would keep posting there's no point to it. There have already been a few good examples. If you don't want to use it, that's fine. It doesn't mean it's pointless.

Another good example. I follow Ocado the delivery service. A few weeks back I had a delivery with a couple of dented soup tins. I tweeted a photo to them and I had a refund within a couple of hours they tweeted back they've found my account and refund both tins...

A few people happen to share the same opinion.

If people on here didn't post comflicting opinions this would be the most boring forum in the world.

Of course, but the thread was 'who else on BCF uses Twitter' not 'is Twitter any use?'. It just seems a bit odd people coming into the thread saying it's pointless and silly, especially after some great example's of why it's so useful.

If I start trolling through going in to each thread saying the subject of the thread is stupid, I'm sure I would be quite unpopular very quickly.

Start a thread on football and see how long it takes before an avalanche of "overpaid pansies who cry at the first sign of contact" posts flood it... It is the way of things.

Yeah, but no-one has yet given a decent argument to show that's not the case Wink

I've just signed up to twitter for following F1 and I think it's bloody awesome actually.

It's all down to who you follow and the quality of their posts, and there are some very good posters in the F1 paddock (Mike Gasgoyne, Scarbs, Sarah Holt, not to mention the drivers).

However, I've no compulsion to either post on there myself or follow any 'normal' people. It's just another news feed to me.
