Hi all.

I was parking my CBR 125 and somehow the little rusty spring thought it should come off the side stand. I tried to fiddle around in the dark but I just couldn't find where to fit it so I gave up. I got Uni. in the morning so I'm wondering whether if its a quick job and how to fix it. Please let me know asap or else I'll have to take the bloody bus and tube tomorrow. p.s. googled it but found nothing. Regards.

Just use a bungee to hold it up until you can sort it.

Buy the spring from Honda. £5 tops, more likely £3, put it on maybe a minute of fiddling, sorted.

INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR A MEANINGFUL ANSWER.

Do you have the spring?

If not, tie-wrap or duct tape the stand up and order a new spring.

If you do have the spring, then man up and re-attach it. The attachment points will be 1-2cm further apart than the furthest that you think the spring will stretch.

Bring pliers and a big screwdriver, as you'll have to haul or lever it back into place under considerable tension.

I see you have never been shown the 'knack', Roger....
No undo stand pivot bolt, attach spring between frame lug and pin on the stand, THEN re-attach the stand and push the pivot pin back in...

Will take some leverage to pry it into place, BUT, its usually a damn site easier than trying to stretch the spring over the noggins!

There is another trick with a bit of strong wire or a bit of old bowden (brake) cable, and looping it round the end of the spring and one off the noggings, doubles up so the force you put pulling on the end is doubled by the pulley effect, but once you have the hook close to the noggin, you still have the hassle of trying to get it clipped round it.

First thing in the morning I've managed it however it keeps dropping off as soon as I put the stand up, the stand seems too loose near the bolt but I'm not sure at all and when its parked the stand looks too far out than usual. I've used a bungee as the guy advised and I'll take it to the dealer to see what they suggest. I hope it wont be too expensive to replace the whole thing but fingers crossed it might be the spring. Is there any mechanics in this forum living around M25? Regards.

Sounds like stretched spring and or worn hinge.
New spring, or put new bend in old one higher up.
Drill out the hinge and use larger bolt, to take out the 'slop'.

If the stands out at a much further angle than usual it sounds like at best a broken or missing bolt, buggered stand or at worst a broken frame tube or attachment.

took it to the dealer (i think on Friday) got it done straight away but he said it could come off anytime apparently the stand got a hit somehow and nothing to do with the spring whatsoever. he said i should bring it in sometime next week and he'll mend or bend the stand or somthing couldnt understand what he was saying and he looked a lil busy. the spring came off today and it cut off i thought it was petrol but wasnt hard to figure out when i put the gear back into 1st and cut off again. i couldnt chase where the spring went and had no bungee with me so left the bike at a random place near camden street and confused what to do now. it first came off last week when parking it and now when driving it? i mean how can it come off while driving? im sure i make no contact with stand while putting my feet on to any pedals . i dont get it. i cant figure out how a stand could be hit by anything? all the fairings not even a scratch? im gonna collect it tomorrow and leave it for the dealer to sort it that little issue is seriously doing my nerves.. thanks for the advices.
