help desire hd vs iphone4 vs windows7 HTC

hi guys

some help required on my phone upgrade!

I'm gonna stick with orange as I get good deal but not sure which handset yo take.
at moment I have a HTC hero running 1.6 android the desire is currently at top of list but quite like the idea od I phone they seem very smooth running and music on them look and sounds great.

windoes7 HTC is my wildcard curious about them


any advice input greatly recived

Another Desire HD user here.

Had an amusing moment with an iPhone user at work.

Wanted to know where Theale was as we didn't know, and the work computers won't let us onto the outside internet.

iPhone boy fires up, walks off for a couple of minutes. We continue chatting about something else. His page still hasn't loaded. I pull out the Desire and get it loaded within 20 or seconds including typing into google.

If you do a lot of mobile browsing the Desire's definately superior at the moment.

@ Instigator, my contract is £25 a month, not exactl massive.

ii get where ur coming from but for 30 quid a month free broadband for x box insured phone and no hassle of hunting for phone and as well I Like shiney new gadgets I'm afraid but will sell my HTC hero for a few quid too

Get the Galaxy S, I rate it better than the HTC.

£30 is still quite steep, have you been with Orange long? I've just got the Galaxy S on a 18 month deal, 600mins, internet, unlimited texts and 30 picture mesages for £17.80 a month. The deal was done through the rententions department rather than upgrades, as they can do custom deals to keep your custom.

I found it best to upgrade over the phone, then send it back within the 7 day cooling off period, request you PAC code, then they phoned me wanting to offer me a better deal. Its a bit of hasle but is saving me over £180 of the course of the contract

I looked at galaxy s what do u prefere abhor it over the desire the amoloid screen look great any other features u prefere?

A mate of mine has been using Android for a while and bought the HTC 7 Trophy he thinks its ok but not as customizable as Android he says hes got a lot of niggles with the OS.

I went for the Galaxy S from the HTC Hero and it was a mistake the phone is good but suffers from major lag issues (not Android as my Hero is fine).

Had a Galaxy for a few days and it is not a touch on the HD.

Just general speed and performance isnt as good.

I've stuck a non branded copy of 2.2 on my Galaxy S. All the lag on mine was comming from the Orange bloatware, it went as soon as I flashed it. The screen is the best on the market and the battery will out perform the HTC (once flashed, in my case)

Windows phone 7 is very similar to how the iphone was at launch, very pretty and slick but a bit limited and simplistic once you start looking past the sheen, I've only played around with one on loan from work for the day though and I didn't hammer it enough to notice any bugs or the like.

In my eyes Android and iOS are not too disimilar currently, 2.3's browser has the edge over Safari when it comes to performance although it's not huge, flash support is arguably of more note though. On the flipside, the Apple app store is still king especially if you are a gamer, but once again, the android market is still coming along rather nicely and will only gather up more steam with the huge market share gains it's made over the last year.

To people who say "I don't like the iPhone, it's all form over function", etc.

I've had my 3G for 2 and a half years. It still charges and retains charge as new, it is scratch free and it functions as perfectly as the day I bought it.

They're built to last and that's often worth considering when you're spending nigh on £500 for a handset (whether as a lump sum or as part of your tariff).

well i have decided between samsung omnis 7 windows phone and htc hero desire hd.

will have a look at them both in the flesh tomorrow and decide.

I've recently read that Nokia is progressing onto phones using Windows mobile 7 leaving it's own inhouse operating system behind completely for it's older range of phones currently out there, and so I guess the battle is going down to the wire between Apple & Microsoft just as before on PCs!

My personal mobile phone manufacturer favourite is Samsung as they are sturdy phones and I've found that my very old backup phone the Samsung J700 has superior FM Radio pick because it appears Nokia to be having a lot of problems in that area with it's latest range of phones.

So, I would go for a Samsung windows 7 phone, as their spec is pretty good except Iphones can be literaly used any where in the world it appears!

Hi guys


in the end i went for htc mozart on windows 7 mob.

so far in im very happy with the phone only problem is it wont download any games,all apps are fine will try over wifi.

the userface is very pretty,nice simple smooth.
browser is great better than my htc hero by far.
camera is also great.

im trying out zune at the moment with loads of free music for 9 quid a month.

will keep u updated with any probs i have through out the time

If it weren't for the fact that NO T-mobile stores had the Desire HD in stock before christmas when it was my renewal time, I wouldn't have had the Iphone.

I daresay that the Iphone was a bit of a reluctant purchase, but have subsequently found my day-to-day life is invaluable without it.

The OS 4.2.1 is simplicity in itself. The navigation is great and it's pretty rapid. I originally was adamant that I would have an andriod phone running frodo, but having had 2 minute play on an iphone 4 at the covent garden store, I made a beeline for the nearest t-mobile store that had it in stock! The guy cunningly hid the box behind an ipad whilst I waited an hour for the t-mobile renwals team to bring forward my renwal date since I was due to go on holiday the following day.

I'm originally an anti-apple person since I've been against getting ipods for ages. But the phone swayed my thoughts.

Seeing that it is my first smart phone (previous phone was a C902 which doubled up as my MP3 player), I'm pretty subjective here but what I rate

Browser load speed on safari in a 3g/wifi area
Camera - HDR mode is great when you play with it in photomatix. The macro shot is better than my 12mp fuji compact - point to focus is perfect. HD shooting in video mode is great.
GPS & free satnav apps. Again, it elminates the need for me to carry maps!
Skype! Never have I been able to ring my folks in Indonesia with this level of quality before! The phone has pretty good call quality. I've never had any feedback. Under normal conditions, I've not had any issues with dropped calls or poor reception.

What I hate

Itunes! I have a main PC and a laptop which both contain my mp3 collection! Itunes only lets you sync to one pc! I do have other software which allows you to do it, but it's just hasslehof!
It's scratch-tastic... oh well!

In short, it was the right phone size for my bike jackets and had the right sort of features. The Desire HD was slightly too big for my pockets. Oh, it can go a full day between charges which usually involves 3 or so hours of being on 3G browsing and 3 hours of music.

What's battery life on the desire HD like?
