I doubt it considering it's completely invisible if you were looking at the bike from the back right hand side. Pity though because it would look good on some rat bikes.

Was wondering this the other day because the harley sportster 883 iron has a side mounted plate as standard but the uk model has a normal one on the mudguard so I'm guessing not.

so long as its mounted the right way up and is legible from 10ft away directly inline with the bike then its legit.

Cheers

Hi

It will probably be another of things where the MOT is just a small subset of the actual law.

Legal bit is here:-

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/regulation/5/made

They could possibly get you on the basis that the plate isn't at the back of the vehicle or as near as practically possible.

However I do not really know what they mean by the "diagonal length of the relevant area". I would guess that it is to do with the angles it can be viewed from, in which case it might be illegal.

All the best

Keith

As far as I can interpret 'The diagonal length of the relevant area', it means that:

From both sides of a 57mm wide character, a diagonal line of 45 degrees drawn away from the character of length 22m gives you an area that the character must be able to read from.

This may well be wrong but it seems a decent interpretation.

Hi

That would be my guess as well, but if it is just checking the angle is can be viewed from then the distance is pretty irrelevant, while if the distance is relevant that comes down to the font and size of the letters which is fixed.

All the best

Keith

Im liking that, mainly as it protects the rear wheel from fling from the chain.

Ive got little streaks of oil on the left side of my rear tyre Sad always worried about leaning that side....
