Mozilla Firefox memory usage problem.

Not only is firefox sooooo slowwwwww, but it's using over a gb of memory, is this right????

Windows Vista with 4gb of RAM btw...

The most memory mine has used is about 350MB that is with loads of YouTube videos and tabs open at the same time. If you are using 1,000+MB, something isn't right. I seem to remember something similar happen to me. It was caused by a dodgey site, so I closed the tab and everything was fine.

By dodgey, I mean either a .pdf that had not loaded properly or a website with HUGE amounts of text information and links. This slowed it right down, even freezing it at one point. Closed that tab and it was fine.

That's interesting Adam, i heard it's potentially a pdf problem (we've been viewing a few pdfs for bills at the moment - so could have been that) but i also researched that it could have been caused by firefox allocating memory to flash, and when (for example my case) youtube closes, it doesn't let go of the allocated memory.
Just downloaded flashblock and currently now using 196mb.

Don't know how long it will last though, and this computer is an always connected always on computer.

Rogerborg, I used to dable around with PE discs, and machine building years ago when i had alot of spare time on my hands. Between kids and work - I don't have the time these days.

This is the most time i've spent on here in ages, partly due to Special Leave - but even then i can't spend as much time surfing as i would like. I still have a couple of CPU's (old P4's) that need transplanting into some motherboards - I've bought the thermal paste about 3 years ago, just never had the time to do the rest. [sigh]. Lol

Sure i've got Ubuntu upstairs somewhere as well

and firefox doesnt dump its cache until closed, the more you open vids and watch them the more memory it takes and continues to use.
closing the program should reset it.

add ons also use memory.

i read about it when doing some browser research.
