Basically, I have some forks listed on Ebay. I've specified no overseas buyers, or at least I am not posting oversea's.

Just had a message from a person saying this:

Quote:
hello,

I'm from Portugal, if you let me buy it ill sent UPS pick it up at you place, you just have to package it

If you are interested please let me know

thanks

Jesus Nunes

What's the deal with this? Is it safe for me to do that? The item is packaged and ready to go.

I'm well aware of all the scams about and stuff. I don't want to get stitched up with him saying he hasn't received it or whatever. What sort of protection do I have?

I would just wait for them to sell to an English buyer, but I could do with the money.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There are scams, you can also exploit them.

If you accept payment via paypal and it is from a stolen account paypal will take back the funds, but you will get them back after you provide proof you sent it. Do not let him sort out a courier do it yourself.

That you can do if you are feeling sneaky is accept payment wait a week to see if the funds are taken back from your account, then post an empty box to Portugal, say to paypal I have sent the item out, you get the money and the item, paypal loses money, thief gets an empty box. Everybody wins Thumbs Up

Hi I live in Portugal and do find it hard now to buy things on ebay etc due to the postage etc.Where as when living in the Uk it was easier.

I would say as long as you get the cash via paypal and you have it then let him worry about the postage.

And obviously check the normal ebay things that you would do even when selling to a uk bidder , point and feedback results etc.

If thats bad or he is a first time buyer then just say your really sorry but as stated you wont arrange postage overseas.

A lot of portguese are using the Uk ebay as it is so much cheaper than buying things here. My Hubby bought an engine for a friends transit van and had it shipped over and even including all the costs it was 2 k cheaper than buying it here.

Haha not a bad idea. I couldn't do that because I am to nice Smile.

So its basically a no go then?

He does have 127 positive feedback though. Don't know if that makes any difference. Will do some Ebay stalking to see what he's bought!

Could easily be a stolen ebay account.

Don't let him sort out the carriage, do it yourself, you should be fine either way proving you have proof of delivery but it will be a balls ache if the payment is removed as paypal 'investigate' if you are up for messing about do it. If not don't.

Don't write it off.

I've sold stuff to people in Brazil and Eygpt because of how cheap the parts were compared to their country.

Not worth the hassle. I've been fucked around by foreign buyer enough to know that its just not worth it. Just sell it to a UK buyer

Okay thanks guys.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, its not a stolen account as he has items listed in Portugal and also has bought stuff before.

It is pretty risky. I might do a shipping quote on Parcels 2 go, and see how much that's coming back as. At least that way I have proof I sent the goods and he can't mess me about!

Will see if I have any more interest before the item ends.

You will have more than enough proof with UPS. I have an account with UPS and regularly arrange pickup and delivery.

Only you can decide if you want to sell them to him. A fair number of my sales on ebay are overseas, including China, Russia and Brazil. Never had a problem and they do pay a premium price for stuff. The most ridiculous was an original transformer to a Chinese buyer. Brought for £120 and then he paid £80 for postage!

UPS will leave you proof of collection so it's really no different to you sending it.

I'd do it.

Where in Portugal?
I might be doing a delivery out there fri/sat. could hand deliver, collect cash and stick it in your bank.
Would foil all but the most stupid of these scamming idiots.

Portugal does have a bad rep concerning posting goods out, maybe it's the postal system.

Will find out tomorrow AM if i'll be going, pm me if interested

I have sent items to various places and never had a problem, you can use a site like parcel2go and book collection from your home - if he pays by paypal and then you update the tracking details through paypal when you send the item it should be fine. It will also be insured (I think parcelforce Europe cover up to £50 but you can pay extra to increase this)

Spare a thought for us foreign buyers, we’re not all scammers!
We have to accept that we’re going to get raped for the postage.

Why not ask him to post you the cash, for the item, and let him arrange the courier, as a buyer I‘d be prepared to do that!
