Corrected.

5p tax is being added on in April, plus all the goings on in Libya, we'll be hitting £1.50 per litre by the end of April.

Ever rising fuel prices and lower speed limits, there're really trying to force people to use the shit they call public transport

5p per gallon maybe, not 5p a litre.

All the best

They said 5p on the news, I assume it would be a litre.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, as I still think we're going to go over £1.50 by the end of April.

Hi

The increase due is 1p a litre.

Mind you, even if it reaches £8 a gallon the majority of the price would still be tax.

All the best

Keith

Here is a quote from the web

(A Tesco petrol station has been inundated with customers because its sign failed and the store was unable to raise its prices.

The price of a litre of petrol has been stuck at 111.9p – 7p below the national average – for two weeks and the people who run the garage have been unable to charge the proper price due to a grey area in the law.)

A set of ladders could be put into good use (in a grey area)....

This is going to have such a massive impact on the economy. What happens is people will only do the minimum amount of miles, there will be no trips to the sea side etc. Thus impacting on the greater economy.

It's certainly stopped me driving my car.

The bike I don't know, I doubt it. I'm very lucky in the fact my commute is less than 5 miles so no major upheaval there.

On my weekend/summer evening rides, I used to do about 20litres on an average run. Last year that was 20 * 1.14 = £22.80 . Now it's 20 * 1.30 = £26, Even at 20* 1.50 = £30. So worst case it's only an extra £7.20 a ride, I'm saving that by not using the car and visiting places.

My lunch time ride probably costs me 4 litres, so before = 4 * 1.14 = £4.56, worst case now 4 * 1.50 = £6. I know people who spend that eating out each lunchtime, I eat 12p noodles. Also the fact that the vast majority of year ie 80% if not more the weather's too crap/cold to justify a lunchtime ride.

Please dont say that, it makes me mad Evil or Very Mad

I wouldnt mind if the tax went on something worthwhile but most of it goes to waynetta and her 6 benefit generating kids, whats left gets spend on some health and safety crap and paying those old blokes in the fancy house to wave rolled up bits of paper and boo or cheer accordingly whilst waving said rolled up paper. Atleast thats how it works in my head Laughing

The price will keep on going up until people stop moaning and actually do something about it. If the government didn't tax it so highly then it'd be a lot cheaper.
And you've got to remember higher fuel cost=higher haulage costs/production costs=higher cost of food etc.
They whinge about us being in a recession, but they keep taxing fuel. therefore putting the price of everything up. People stop spending as much, we end up going in circles.

Stop whinging. If you think it's expensive now, wait and see if the Saudi regime starts to topple or they start the kick off against Iran.
If you're lucky all this will blow over and normal oil prices will be resumed, but I wouldn't bank on it.

After de sludging the tank on the CB125, I had to go fill it up.
I stopped at just short of £13.... its just NOT right that a tiddler takes over a tenners worth of fuel!
The prices on the boards now are higher than when I first started buying petrol.... in a gallon can I carried the mile to the village petrol station and back to stick in my twist and go moped to use over the fields...... People were moaning THEN that it shouldn't have gone over a pound a gallon, were blaming the labour government and asking why this new woman wasn't using North Sea Oil revinue to get the price back down!
To think that was actually thirty two years ago, near enough.....
But, I have just done a little compound multiplication at 5% a year...
a gallon, or 4.5l of petrol at £1.20 a gallon in 1979, works out at 27p/l, add 5% a year each year, and you get a price for 2011 of £128/l.....
So, its not FAR off what its always been, give or take a bit.

Lots of things have been effecting the ecconomy; but in the UK, I think that probably the most cancerouse thing has been 'the property market'.....

House prices since 1979 have been increasing year on year way above the rate of inflation, yet expectations have been placed that we should all aspire to own our own homes, and put a far higher perceived value on them than perhaps they should have. Only mitigating factor that has allowed it to perpetuate so far as it has is that we have so LITTLE land area and such a high population density.

Back in 1979, the average house price was just about equal to the average mans wage. Now, the average price value is often more than the three and a half times annual salery mortgage reckoner, not of the average MANS wage, but of the combined average family income of a working couple.......

Ie, the price of petrol, as a proportion of our weekly income hasn't changed MUCH... the price of our home, however has gone up something like five times, in relation to income.....

Talking about tax and benefit for Miss unmarried mum of 6 on in Chaverton..... I make no comment, there will always be those that can exploit the system.

BUT, there's also an awful lot that, through no real fault are simply cought in a benefit trap, where if they tried to be self supporting, they couldn't afford to live, and a BIG part of that is the cost of housing. If you are on benefit, and in rented accomodation, its paid for you. Soon as you work, you have to pay it yourself, but its so expensive, on an irregular or low wage, you'd be out of pocket.

DSS cant lower the housing benefits, becouse the market is priced at what it can demand, and the trouble is, it can demand too much, becouse we value housing too highly, and dont have enough of it....

Its a very small scheme, but has big implications, BUT I REALLY think we need to introduce a system for car registration based on parking provision.......

If you have a house, you have so many feet of street parking outside it.

I live in a terraced block, set a bit back from the road, and am lucky, I have the end house and a full width driveway. I have enough room for two cars, two range rovers AND a caravan on the drive, without concreting my front garden like my neighbors, who can just squeeze two cars on.

But round the corner, its older street terraces without gardens. They are narrow little houses, about 15 foot wide... You can just about park a Ford Mondeo infront of one.... NOT the BMW % series AND the Frontera so many of the householders actually own..... wondering why its a struggle to park outside thier own front door!

Now, if to register a car at a certain address you HAD to provide 'proof of parking', it would mean that if you only had 16ft of street parking you could ONLY register one car up to 16ft long from it....

It would take an AWFUL lot of cars off the road at a stroke.

THAT would do more for road safety, and enviromental emmissions than ANY amount of reducing emmission limits or increasing taxes on fuel or emmisssions ratings..... It would also ease conjection as cars traveling down residential streets might actually be able to move, and see round corners.

And it would hit the property market, too, and might do something to bring down property prices to something a little more sensible....

Its only a LITTLE thing, but the knock ons are quite significant.

The way I am riding to work is costing me £2.50 every 10 miles or 80 miles is £20.

Not sure on the MPG but I may have to start riding slower if the prices keep going up.

Yeah but MinDinh is second only to Ace Biker in the riding stakes, so he probably can get 25mpg from a sports 600.

They can lower housing benefits as those housing benefits are providing the level of demand which is boosting house prices.
